I just attended a camp to learn how to do this...it's all about the accuracy, power and the finish. it's something that has to be mastered and practiced...most people aren't born with it...

Accuracy: Look up before you fire and pick a corner of the goal. Lower corners for taller goalies and higher for shorter... If they are pretty much regular sized...pick a corner.

Power: Comes after you master accuracy...Shooting with the laces provides the most power...balace and strength are required here too. Accuracy is more import then this...it doesn't matter how much power you have if you aren't on target.

Finish: The follow through. You want to land on your kicking foot. and if your far away run towards the goal. It's important...

It all takes a ridiculous amount of practice...Trust me...

if you are shooting with the laces then measure the distance between the center of your feet when you are standing shoulder lengthe apart. then have that distance start at the middle of the ball and end that distance on the canter of your planting foot. this is the optimum length of space for you to have for your planting foot and the balls distance apart. (this works well if you cut a string to that length and then put the center of the ball on on end and the center of your foot on the other and you want to keep your feet directly across from the ball at all times) then once you get used to planting your foot there you can then start on other aspects. if you lean forward it will lower your shots and give you more power preventing you from kicking it over the bar. leaning back often gives you more loft and backspin so it is good for clearances. also make sure your toes are pointed down the whole time in the beginning you might put your toe in the dirt when you go to shoot and it hurts like heck but eventually you will get your swing right, because when you make contact with the ball your knee should be over the ball. Then, you want to follow through and land on your kicking foot, that is very important. it took me about three years to get my shot to where it is now and it is very good and one of the best on my team but i still have a lot of work to do on it. Just don't give up and be persistant and remember accuarracy comes before power focus on getting the right technique and being accurate and the power will come.
