Bama Claims Title, Place Among College Football Elite
08 January 2010
The best college football games to watch are the ones that have a number of momentum shifts throughout. Last night’s battle for the national title certainly didn’t disappoint in this area. Both Texas and Alabama came out of the tunnel fired up and ready to trade paint, but the men in burnt orange and white were quick to seize the early energy pulsing throughout the Rose Bowl. Texas jumped out to an early lead, but it didn’t take long for Bama to settle in and get their ground game rolling. Some big plays on offense would soon shift the scoreboard in Alabama’s favor, and a key turnover forced by the Bama defense late in the half for a score would send them into the locker room with an 18-point halftime lead.
Texas was not about to roll over though, and was able to move the ball effectively through the air in the second half. Their aerial assault put points on the board, and a clutch two-point conversion even pulled them within three with just minutes remaining. But in the end it was another big play by Alabama’s defense – a forced fumble and recovery on the Texas three yard line – that put its team in a position to go up by ten with just 2:01 left to play. Bama’s relentless ground attack would allow them to add on another six insurance points, putting them up 37 to 21, but by then the outcome was clear. Alabama would win its first title since 1992 and complete its return to national prominence.
On a number of occasions throughout the night the new Nike Vapor Trail 2.0 glove took center stage, as Alabama players repeatedly flashed the team logo on their palms in celebration. This was a team that clearly came ready to Leave Nothing, and now has a national title trophy to show for it. Congratulations to the University of Alabama for finishing their season undefeated and claiming the 2009 -2010 national championship.
