Alabama vs. Texas: Let the Battle for Supremacy Begin

After weeks of predictions, press bites and prognostication, there’s only one thing left to do – play the game. Tonight top-ranked Alabama and No. 2 Texas meet for the highly anticipated national title game, and if the actual contest lives up to its buzz we may be looking at one of the greatest championships of all time.

Texas is going for its second title in five years, but their path to victory is fraught with challenges. Their vaunted aerial attack is up against a very talented Alabama secondary that includes some big time playmakers, while its defense will have its hands full trying to stop Bama’s punishing ground game.

Not that Alabama will have it much easier. They face a Texas defense that ranked first against the run and third in yards allowed. That kind of stinginess could make things extremely difficult for Bama’s offense to have the kind of game it needs to win. And considering the 7-0-1 lopsided record that Texas boasts over Alabama, one has to wonder how the history of this match-up will factor in.
