Steel Pulls Move of the Year

Steel Lafferty took home the Oakley Wakeboard Move of the Year at the TransWorld WAKEBOARDING’s 2010 Wake Awards. His toeside backside 900 off the double-up was dubbed the most innovative and progressive move pulled all year. Silas Thurman, Nike 6.0 wake mentor gives props to the ripper, “It's a big deal. People have been talking about landing that trick for about five years now and Steel was the first. It's really good for him on a lot of levels.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Steel also took home the Check Out award, which is given to the sport’s best up-and-coming young rider.

Want to see Steel's 900 for yourself? Check it here.
Cranking in Curacao

Come along with the Nike 6.0 wake team as they search out the sickest winch spots in Curacao and do work in front of awe-struck tourists and locals alike. When your "work" crew consists of some of the world's most talented wakeskaters and wakeboarders, you know minds are going to be blown. And the guys did not disappoint as they laid nails and dropped hammers all day, while capturing banger shots and incredible footage.

“Curacao was an action-filled travel trip for the Nike 6.0 wake team," said Team Mentor, Silas Thurman. "The team - from all different parts of the US and Canada - made their way to Curacao, one of the ABC islands for their yearly action and lifestyle shoot. World-renowned photographer, Joey Meddock came along to capture all the traveling, action and tomfoolery the team got into.”

Suffice it to say, when your work travel brings you to places like Curacao you know you're doing something right. And after just one view of the above video, we think you'll agree - these guys are doing everything right.
Man of Steel

Big ups to Steel Lafferty who tested his mettle against the best of the US to be crowned the WWA Wakeboard National Jr. Pro Men's Champion.

Here's what Steel had to say, "To be a National Champ feels like a huge accomplishment in furthering my career in wakeboarding. It's an honor to be able to compete against the best and a dream come true to win!"

Taking home top honors means Steel just scored an invite to take on the best of the rest at the Wakeboard World Championships later this year.
HENSHAW GETS COVERED

Something to consider: Magazine covers make time stand still. Covers keep track of style, progression and that creative self-expression that flows through all we do. For many, the cover of our favorite mag inspires the faithful to reconsider what’s possible.

Wakeboard extraordinaire Kevin Henshaw froze the hands of Father Time to land himself the Cover Shot of SBC Wakeboard Magazine. From Canada to Clermont, FL, Kevin has been throwing it down with a style all his own. Here’s what the man had to say about his frozen moment:

"This is a tube shot that Jason Lee took of me doing a tail grab backside one eighty. He set up in a tube with a water housing about five feet back from where I would be crossing his lens. My goal was to cross in front of him doing the tail grab, imagining I was tapping his lens with the nose of my board and then take it to a backside one eighty. This shot is special to me because you can do 7s and different flips all day long, but it's moves like the backside one eighty with a good grab that will be everlasting."

Well said Kevin. Grab your copy of SBC to keep the legacy of the cover shot alive.

Which brings up our question for the day: Who’s cover shot blew your mind? Name your favorite in that little box below.
Remote Board Up For Grabs

It’s been a long wait for the Remote boards to come out. But, the boys won’t apologize. The team has been hard at work on every aspect of design to come up with the perfect board, not only for the team riders, but for the heart and soul of wakeskating. From the materials they use, exact rocker lines, concave, and even down to how they want the graphics to fit “Remote." They are only days from shipping their first batches out to your local shops, but as they finished the first batch they came up with this idea, which Nike 6.0 wake mentor and Remote's, Silas Thurman explains:

"The responses we’ve been getting from the public, emails, phone calls, online posts and word of mouth have kept us motivated and we want to give back our appreciation for that. We pulled our first board off the production line, put a limited one time only first graphic on it and it’s going to one of you. Use this board as you like, but remember this is literally Remote’s first production board and we hope you cherish it as much as we cherish giving it to you."

Here are the rules: Please write a short sentence about why you need Remote's first board. Send all emails to silas@remotewakeskates.com. The three partners in the Remote venture - Andrew Pastura, Ben Horan and Silas - will pick the winner on Monday the 29th and will personally be shipping you the board along with some other goodies.

"We love everyone’s support and appreciate you waiting for us," says Silas. "It took us this long for a reason and you will see that in all of our products."
