Nike 6.0 Open Breckenridge: Day 1

On the opening day of the Nike 6.0 Open Breckenridge, KP made a climatic return to the pipe. After his devastating injury while training for the 2010 Winter Olympic Team, Kevin stood proud atop the Breckenridge halfpipe yesterday. Many hugs, smiles and high fives where given out, welcoming the hero during his happy return. This is Kevin's first big on-snow appearance since his accident, yet it felt like he had never left. His return to riding is still undetermined at this point, but the snowboard industry awaits the day when this may come. Welcome back Kevin!

The Nike 6.0 team who were competing today stood tall through qualifications. Day one of qualifications was a daunting day to say the least. Overcast, light snow and chilling winds cursed the day with difficult conditions, giving the riders no choice but to buckle up and ride hard. After day one in Breckenridge, Nike 6.0 qualification athletes all made their way to the next round. Congrats to Greg Bretz, Matt Ladley and Trevor Jacob for pushing through to the semifinals. Stay tuned for the next few days of snowboard qualifications.

Trevor Checks in from Windells

I was up here at Windells for the Nike 6.0 session. We got together with the head digger at Windells and gave him an idea of what we could build with the amount of snow they had and the features they could come up with while we were there. The kids were stoked on us being there and the 6.0 features. It was a good time all around, not to mention the new concrete skate park they built down at the campus and the new BMX jumps they have also. It was a super good time, we gave out some Nike product, came up with some fun contests for the kids and hung around camp. Hope to see you there next year! Thanks, Trevor Jacob. GKC All Day

The Nike 6.0 blog - Insider - is just that and inside look at our talented roster of athletes, but getting the scoop on these guys means chasing them down as they criss-cross the globe looking for the next big hit. That's why we were so stoked when this email from snowboarding young gun, Trevor Jacob, showed up in our inbox:

"I'm emailing you about getting some videos on the Insider of me and my friends and what we do when were just messing around in our spare time. Here are some of the links on youtube below. We make edits every couple of weeks. Let me know what you think. At the moment were making this edit about our crew and what it's about. Our crew is called GKC and were just having fun with it."

Hight Rocks Roxy Chicken Jam

We know it’s almost April, but winter ain’t over yet! This past weekend saw hot shred action at Mammoth Mountain, California in the form of the Roxy Chicken Jam (Check pix here). Under the face-melting springtime sun, Nike 6.0 lass Elena Hight posted a podium result in the Superpipe with ginormous air-time and tech-ed out seven-to-seven combos.

But that’s not all! A few of our gentlemen got to rep at this ladies’ event. Gret Bretz and Mason Aguirre displayed their kicker prowess in the Mammoth locals big air jam, officially dubbed the Cluck Off, while 6.0’s Trevor Jacob won the Mascot Superpipe contest. Yep, dressed as a man-sized cheetah, complete with spots and a tail, Jacob beat out at least 20 other mascots (including a hot dog, a woolly mammoth and Todd Richards dressed as a chicken) for the first place prize of $3,000 bucks. Not a bad days work, eh?

Trevor Heats up at Cholula Triple Air

While all tubes may have been tuned to the action in Vancouver, 6.0 snowboarder Trevor Jacob threw down some special sauce in the Cholula Triple Air at Mountain High’s West Resort last weekend to ride away with 3,409 Cholula bottles worth of dinero.

Trevor wowed the crowd with a run that featured a 50/50 540 off the pole jam, a cab 900 off the jump and a front 450 off a hip that worked more like a cannon, on a three feature course that kept the riders stoked and the style front and center.

One question remains: What will Trevor do with the $10K winnings?
