Winter Chosen Crew Contest Invite

Check out the announcement from Nike Snowboarding team members Scotty Lago and Danny Kass about the opportunity of a lifetime: you and your crew’s chance to live like Nike pros.

We’re looking for the crews that capture the most style, creativity and originality with their videos. Show us footage that’s unexpected and fresh (not necessarily the best trick-to-trick video part). Push your crew’s collective creativity and show us original, insightful stuff, and don’t forget to pack your videos full of your own personality and style.

We’ve got your soundtrack covered. Use em, abuse em, mash em up. They are all yours.

Hurry up! The contest submission period is 12.1.11 – 2.15.12. The top crew from each participating country and two wildcards with the most social interaction and buzz on Facebook will be chosen by Nike to advance to Round 2.

From February 21 – March 5, 2012 your peers from around the world will cast their vote and narrow it down to three chosen finalists that will be announced on March 12, 2012.

These top 3 final crews will then be flown to Austria for the Chosen Sessions to film a new edit, of which our Nike athletes will decide which crew will be Chosen to live like a Nike pro on April 7th, 2012.

Couple helpful reminders if you’re shooting/editing a video for the Chosen crew video contest on the required legal terms and conditions of running a contest:
• Your video contains only images of you and your crew that has signed up for The Chosen, nobody else.
• Your video is original and authentic and does not contain any images or video from the web, TV or other people’s work.
• Your video is appropriate, and you wouldn’t be afraid to show it to your Mom.
• Your crew (that has signed up) own and control all rights to the video and its contents.
• You only used the music provided.

Don’t forget to check the “Essentials” page in the Chosen crew contest app on Facebook for our music tracks, video identity/bumper and tips on creating buzz on Facebook.

We wish every crew that participates the best of luck. We’re all really excited to see what you come up with.

Team Manager and legendary shredder Barrett Christy took the girls snowboard team to Revelstoke resort last season for a week of interior BC pow. The area, previously only accessed by sleds, now has several lifts that offer access to peaks and bowls that provided endless entertainment to a crew with some pent-up freeriding energy.
Spencer and Sage Successful at Arctic Challenge

Spencer O’Brien and Sage Kostenburg continued their winning streaks at the Arctic Challenge in Oslo, Norway over the weekend.

Spencer’s smooth style and bag of tricks placed her just two points behind the winner. Her 2nd place run included a frontside lipslide, 50-50 on the canon, backside 3, frontside 5, and switch backside 5.

Sage threw down two solid runs placing him in 3rd. His final run that landed him on the podium included a cab 270 on, 50-50 back 1 out, cab 12 double, front 10, 50-50 front 3 out, and a back 10. His next stop is the Toyota Big Air in Japan, where he'll throw down more heavy-hitting tricks in hopes of continuing his streak of success.

Major props to all 6.0 riders. Way to kill it!
Peetu Onboard with 6.0 Outerwear

Nike 6.0 kicks off its inaugural outerwear season by signing Hyvinkaa, Finland's Peetu Piiroinen. The immensely versatile, softly spoken 22-year-old has been a permanent fixture on podiums throughout the world, gaining the respect of fellow snowboarders where ever he travels.

"With 6.0 outerwear launching this winter, it's a natural progression to extend our relationship with Peetu from footwear and apparel onto outerwear as well," says Nike 6.0 Team Manager John Weaver. "Peetu is the perfect fit into a strong team and represents an amazing role model for the younger guys coming up on 6.0. Reports back from New Zealand are that Peetu is fully in snowboard mode after the summer and carrying on where he left off last season."

On the back of a stand out season, Peetu has shown the focus and determination to win events with his final run time and time again. His understated attitude and natural talent has led him to be the only rider to have taken back-to-back TTR titles 08/09 - 09/10 with wins and podium spots throughout the season in Big Air, Slopestyle, Quarterpipe and Pipe.

Peetu will represent Nike 6.0 for outerwear, apparel and footwear.

"It's great to be part of the 6.0 family, the new outerwear line is looking great and I'm excited about the coming season. I had an amazing last winter and everything feels good in early season sessions. I'm super motivated to ride." - Peetu Piiroinen
D-Pad Session Teaser

A few years ago we were making up tricks on computer games; of course it was all just a dream, a fantasy, a way to while away the hours or wind down following a good session, perhaps an opportunity to make a digital rider do the impossible. We would frantically press the D Pad on the controller in the hope that we could invent the future, we could pretend that those pixels up on the screen were us laying down the absurd and surely impossible tricks.

Fast forward a few years and guess what, snowboarding has progressed so much that what we were doing back in the day wasn’t so ridiculous after all. This got us thinking, if the controller tapping of yesteryear is the reality of today, what’s in store for tomorrow? We figured we should try and find out. Taking 12 of the world’s best riders we went to a place that has 20 hours of sunlight a day coupled with blazingly epic sunsets. With the Session in play and the Norwegian Fjords as our backdrop we began pressing the reset button.

The D-Pad Session. One of the most creative and progressive end of season sessions to go down. Featuring Gjermund Bräten, Mason Aguirre, Jake Blauvelt, Eero Ettala, Terje Haakonson, Kevin Backström, Ethan Morgan, Jamie Nicholls, Ståle Sandbech and more.
The TTR flexed its muscles once again to herald in another 9 months of top class snowboarding around the globe with a new event, the Ante Up in Whistler, a 5 Star Big Air held on the glacier.

Man of the moment Gjermund Braaten, fresh from taking the D pad session apart was in the house, to get his season underway and managed to walk away with a 4th place putting him 1st place in the TTR. This is what he had to say about it -

"The Ante Up went down yesterday, which was my first contest of the TTR 10/11 season. The jump was pretty mellow, but the weather was changing quite a lot. There was a sick level of riding with many of the worlds best in attendance. In qualifications I landed a backside 10, way more flat than usual, pretty happy with that, putting me in 7th, then in the finals first hit I went for a doublecork 1260 and stuck it. Was amazing to look up after and get such a high score, but wasn't so good when i dropped off the podium, but with 4th place here and my 3rd place finish from last season that overall puts me in 1st place! Stoked to be there and going to try and hang on as the season progresses" Gjermund.
Not only did he score the March cover of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine with a boosty frontside air over one of his Frends, but the following is his latest Facebook update: "Counting down the days till I get to go back to VT. Just want to thank everyone who has helped me throughout the beginning stages of my recovery. Still got a ways to go but am doing much better. You guys have been amazing with all your love and support. Thanks again!"—Kevin
6.0 Shreds the U.S. Open of Snowboarding

Snowboarding’s major competition season wrapped up this weekend with the one, the only U.S. Open Championships and, lest you be left wondering, Nike 6.0 was definitely out in full force.

Friday’s Superpipe Finals saw Nike’s own Louie Vito stomp a cab ten double, double crippler and a giant, last-hit 1260 for the silver-medal podium spot (actually, boos erupted from the crowd when they showed Vito’s score, as many swore he shoulda won it instead of taking second, but that’s the way the contest cookie crumbles sometimes). Ross Baker, Ben Watts and Matt Ladley shredded Finals alongside Vito, as did TTR crown-holder Peetu Piiroinen. Peetu even won the day’s Best Trick with a ginormous cab 1080 double cork, earning three grand for his troubles, and that’s on top of the 50Gs he took home for winning this year’s Burton Global Open series title. Man, what a great year Peetu’s been having.

But speaking of Superpipe Best Trick, 6.0’s Ellery Hollingsworth won the women’s division with a lofty Michalchuk off her first hit. She also nabbed third place in the final Superpipe standings, while her teammate Elena Hight touched down behind her in sixth. Congrats, ladies!

When it came to Saturday’s Slopestyle event, Mikkel Bang stole the show. Cab ten, switch back 1260, and frontside 1080 went his jump line—all executed with his signature super-chill, über-lofty style. He scored a whopping 98 out of 100, which is undoubtedly one of the highest scores any one’s ever clocked in U.S. Open history.
Snow Team Steps Up at X

Our snowboard team repped big-time in Aspen this weekend. Out of six teamriders invited to the X Games, five made the finals in their areas of expertise, and Mikkel Bang even brought home the bronze medal in Big Air.

In fact, Mikkel had a pretty bangin’ weekend in general. He scored a second place in the slopestyle elimination round on Thursday. Saturday evening saw him on fire in the Big Air—spinning a picture-perfect switch backside 1260, then a frontside 1080, then a lofty backside rodeo for bronze medal status. The next morning, he came out to clinch sixth place in the slopestyle finals.

Louie Vito and Greg Bretz did their thing in the halfpipe finals—Greg, working his way through a back-to-back 1080 combo (that included a double cork) into an über-stylish 1260. Vito worked his back-to-back double cork magic and touched down just behind Bretz in sixth place. Peetu Piiroinen made his way to X from Finland, looking to sharpen his game before heading off to Vancouver to do his country proud.

On the women’s side, Ellery Hollingsworth chucked a Cab 1080 in the superpipe finals, and seriously almost had it! So sick. She landed in fifth place, and Miss Elena Hight ended up just behind her in sixth.

Congrats to all!
