Anaheim 1: Back at it Again

The above image is from almost exactly one year ago after Anaheim 1. James Stewart was the defending Supercross champion and Ryan Dungey was just an upstart rookie. How things have changed in one short year. Ryan is now the defending champion, having accomplished the implausible feat of winning the Supercross and Outdoor titles in his first year, and James is coming back from injury, looking to reassert his dominance.

The upcoming race at Anaheim, as well as the 2011 Supercross season, will be an extremely contentious affair with an immensly deep pool of talent. Stewart is returning from hiatus and will face more pressure than ever to reclaim the glory from his 2009 title-winning season. Winner of two Supercross titles, Chad Reed will be featured for the first time racing aboard his own newly formed TwoTwo Motorsports team. Ryan Villopoto, who has yet to take a premier class title, was on the verge of doing so in 2010 before a broken leg crippled his hopes. And of course there’s Dungey, who had a spectacular 2010 season in Motocross that went largely unchallenged. Things will definitely be tougher for Ryan this time around, but we'll see if anyone can dethrone Dungey in the upcoming Supercross season.

The opening round kicks off Saturday, January 8th at 7:00 p.m PST and will be televised live on Speed TV.

To watch James and Ryan discuss the upcoming season, watch the Nike 6.0 A Night With Champions live webcast here.
Ryan Rewrites History Books

Ryan Dungey has made it into the history books after winning the 2010 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Dungey went 1-1 at the Rockstar Energy Drink Southwick National, extending his lead to 151 points over Andrew Short, thereby clinching the 2010 Motocross Championships. This is the first time that a 450 Class rookie has won both the SX and Outdoor titles in the same year.

"It's a pretty special moment and he's just been doing it so easily and so convincingly," said former Outdoor champ, Jeff Emig. "He just goes out and quietly demolishes the competition. He lets his riding do all of the talking,"

As if one mark in the history books isn't enough, Dungey has also had consecutive wins at the 2009 SX LITES EAST National Championship, 2009 MX 250 National Championship, 2009 Motocross of Nations MX1 Championship, 2010 SX 450 National Championship and now 2010 MX 450 National Championship. He will be the first rider ever to win all four titles back-to-back-to-back-to-back in motorcycle history.

"He's on his way to becoming one of the best riders in the history of the sport," Emig added. We could not agree more.

His current nine National winning-streak ties him with Ricky Carmichael for the most all time. Dungey won't let off the throttle as the series heads to Steel City over Labor Day, where he will be looking to break Carmichael's record on the track.

Don’t miss the last two races of the 2010 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to see if Dungey can break another record!

Broadcast Schedule:
9/4: Steel City Raceway 9:00 pm ET on SPEED
9/11: Pala Raceway 7:00 pm ET on SPEED
Dungey Makes it 8 Straight
To put it frankly, Ryan Dungey is on fire. Round 9 of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championships at Unadilla marked his eighth consecutive victory. Dungey overpowered an international field in the 450 class for a win in front of a crowd of 18,000.

"I got a good start in Moto 1 and put myself in position to lead laps and take the win," said Dungey. "I wasn't thinking of the overall (in Moto 2). I just race to win every time out."

Dungey is just one win away from tying Ricky Carmichael for the most wins ever by a rookie. He now holds a 111-point lead in his quest for the season points championship. Keep your eyes peeled during the rest of the season to see if he can continue his streak and take the 450 class title.
RD1 Tackles Thunder Valley MX

Like a ravenous wolf, Ryan Dungey’s hunger for the W knows no bounds. Coming off of an incredible season of racing, and capturing the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship Title, RD1 continues to chomp, claw and slash through the competition to maintain his dominance at the head of the pack, tackling the top podium spot in Lakewood, CO.

As forecasted, the Thunder Valley MX was a wet one. Brutal rain bursts struck the mile high track throughout the afternoon before the 450cc class race got underway. In the first race, it was Dungey and Josh Grant who battled for the top position, but Grant who eventually took the lead and a first place finish, as Dungey claimed a close second. In race 2 however, Dungey came back with a vengeance taking a quick lead and opening up a sizable gap between himself and the rest of the pack. Digging in and pushing hard, Dungey’s lead went uncontested as he took the checkered flag and the overall MX win.

With yet another W under his belt, RD1 now commands the season points lead with 218, a massive 51 points ahead of his closest competition.
Dungey's Done It!

From the season opener, at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium, Ryan Dungey served notice that he would be a force to reckon with in 2010, leading seventeen of twenty laps and nearly defeating 2009 champion, James Stewart, in the process.

A week later, Dungey’s win in Phoenix gave him a series points lead that he has since refused to relinquish. On Saturday, at Seattle’s Qwest Field, Dungey crossed the finish line in the 15th race of the season and was able to celebrate early as he victoriously claimed the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship title.

Respectfully known as “RD1” for the remainder of the season, Dungey’s battle for the title has been long fought and well deserved. And while the AMA Supercross Championship is an incredible achievement for most, Dungey also has proudly joined the ranks of only one other rider in history, AMA superstar Jeremy McGrath, to ever win the premier-class title in his rookie year. Insane!

Big big ups to our very own Mr. Ryan Dungey for a dramatic, exciting and truly amazing season of racing. Congrats RD1! And even more important than just being a great champion, Ryan is also an individual of great character, as evidenced by his Livestrong outfit that he wore in Seattle to help raise awareness of the effort to fight cancer.
Dungey Claims SX Title

What looked to be another epic showdown between the rivaling Ryan’s in St. Louis turned into the crowning moment to Dungey's rookie Supercross season. In classic 2010 AMA Supercross fashion, 6.0’s Ryan Dungey and season-long contender Ryan Villopoto faced off and threw down at the Edward Jones Dome this past Saturday. However, after Villopoto crashed out of the race, and the rest of the season, Dungey was able to take the race win and, more importantly, the overall 2010 Supercross title, joining Jeremy McGrath as the second rookie to ever do so.

Coming into the race, Dungey held the season point lead at 277 to Villopoto’s 265, and with the lead in clear contention, Saturday’s race was set to be a battle from the start. But on lap 11 Villopoto suffered a major crash, breaking his right leg, taking him out of the race and the rest of the SX season. Dungey held on for the win, his fifth of the season, and wrapped up the Supercross title by amassing an insurmountable lead with three races still to go.

Be sure to catch next Saturday’s race at Seattle’s Qwest Field, live on SpeedTV, to see your new Supercross champion at work.

Huge congrats go out to RD for all his hardwork and effort that resulted in one of the most phenomenal performances by a SX rookie.
Dungey Still on Top

As if previous races hadn’t been a clear indication of how this season’s AMA Supercorss series was going to play out, last Saturday’s race was a solid reminder of the relentless determination that exists among each rider battling for the championship title. In another epic, drama-packed event, Jacksonville proved to be the next episode in a season-long, Ryan vs. Ryan showdown.

Leading the pack in points, 6.0’s Ryan Dungey just came off of a big win in Dallas, pushing him further ahead of fierce title contender Ryan Villopoto, and setting the stage for both Ryan’s to come correct in Jacksonville’s Municipal Stadium.

The night started off with Dungey running strong, leading the first practice session and taking second overall in the second session, while Villopoto’s status was questionable after an early crash in the first timed practice. But by the time the gates dropped in the main event, both Ryans were ready to go, and go they did. Villopoto pulled out to an early lead, while Dungey climbed his way up the ranks, warring with Kevin Windham and, at one point, nearly flying off the track on the very berm that injured Villopoto in practice earlier in the evening. However, it wasn’t long until both Ryans met at the front of the pack, and Dungey was knocking on Villopoto’s door for yet another W.

The race concluded with Ryan chasing Ryan, Dungey taking 2nd and Villopoto claiming first. Dungey’s second-place finish means he holds on to his commanding points lead and continues to put the pressure on Villopoto, who trails on the season by 21 points.

Be sure to catch the next race after the Easter break, when the riders roll into Houston’s Reliant Stadium on April 10 (live on SPEED TV).
Dungey Dominates Dallas

As summer approaches, days heat up and the mud starts to crack, Ryan Dungey's clear and present mission, to take home an AMA Supercross championship title, is at full throttle. With three wins, this season alone, Dungey came into the inaugural Supercross Race at Cowboys Stadium, intent on adding yet another W to the pile and stacking precious leader points between, fierce rival and title contender, Ryan Villopoto.

Since the beginning of the season, it's been a nonstop head-to-head battle between the Ryans...with Ryan chasing Ryan, and Ryan chasing Ryan. And while the drama continues, it's 6.0's own, Ryan Dungey, who capitalized in Dallas, chalking up his fourth victory of the year.

"I got off to good starts and practice went great. Rockstar/Makita Suzuki made some great changes to the bike, and we had a really good bike from the get-go... and that's always the plan," says Dungey, "I was able to get good laps in in practice, win the Heat and get the holeshot in the main, from there it was all about leading smart, consistent laps. But I've got to give it up for the team because if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here."

They say "everything's bigger in Texas," and in the case of Dungey's 24 point lead heading into the next event, it couldn't be more true. Big ups Ryan, on a big win!

Dungey Leads The Pack
Last Saturday, the battle continued for the AMA Supercross points lead, as 6.0‘s Ryan Dungey and season rival, Ryan Villopoto, once again found themselves going head-to-head for a W on Toronto's Rogers Centre racetrack.

Coming into the event Dungey held the points lead, and with a strong finish was positioned to maintain his top spot in the race for a season title.

As the gates fell and mud began to fly, Dungey, Villopoto and Trey Canard quickly distanced themselves from the pack and opened up a three-way battle for first. Canard nailed a killer start and a solid first lap, followed fiercely by his two competitors. It wasn’t long, however, until Villopoto knifed to the inside on the first turn and forced his way into the front position. Dungey was quick to follow suit and overtook Canard as the race progressed, snatching up the chase position behind Villopoto.

20 long laps from the start of the race, Villopoto, Dungey and then Canard crossed the finish-line, respectively. Dungey’s strong 2nd place finish won him valuable points and, once again, ensured his overall points lead going into next week’s race.

With more than half the season behind them, and a dramatic battle for the season title looming, be sure to tune in this Saturday, as Dungey and the competition pull into the brand new Dallas Cowboy’s stadium, for the arena’s first ever AMA Supercross race.
Ryan Vs. Ryan...Dungey Holds Tight
The AMA Motocross drama continued last weekend as 6.0 heavyweight, Ryan Dungey, battled for the third straight week in an epic championship saga. Closing out Saturday's Daytona event with a strong 2nd place finish and holding tight to the overall points lead, Dungey has set the stage for yet another highly anticipated race in Toronto this weekend.

Coming off a dominating 1st place finish in Atlanta, the week prior, and taking sole ownership of the season points lead, the pressure was on for Dungey to come correct in Daytona. After a red flag warning early in the race it was Dungey and top rival, Ryan Villopoto, who carved out a size-able lead from the pack and really put on a show.

The battle between Ryan and Ryan was nothing short of incredible. On a track like Daytona, both riders’ fitness levels and determination were put to the test. While Villopoto eventually pulled out the hard fought W, Dungey never backed off despite having a 23-point advantage coming into the race. For a rider like Dungey, he knows it’s a long series and every point counts when it comes to staying on top.

Check in this weekend for Saturday’s showdown in Toronto, live on SpeedTV.
Dungey Takes Points Lead
Just a week ago Dungey shared the overall AMA points lead; this week he sits alone as the sole leader in a race for the 2010 Supercross title. After his win in Atlanta’s legendary Georgia Dome on Saturday night, Ryan Dungey enters the midway point of the season with clear determination and incredible championship momentum.

Coming into Saturday’s race, the stage was set for a showdown between Dungey and then fellow points-leader, Ryan Villopoto. Villopoto, who had narrowly snatched a first place finish the previous week in Indianapolis, was expected to deliver a similar performance at the Georgia Dome and put up a formidable challenge, but it turned out to to be all Dungey.

From the gates, Dungey asserted himself, winning the hole shot and quickly opening up a gap between Villopoto. The two shared turns for a few laps, but after a frightening get off on lap 10, Villopoto fell too far behind #5 and it was off to the races for the 6.0 moto man, who dominated the rest of the race.

Congrats to Dungey on his the third W of 2010!

Be sure to catch the next race, this weekend at the Daytona Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL. and live on Speed TV.
In the race for a season title, every point, place, turn and finish count, and in the world of motocross, no one knows this to be more true than 6.0’s own moto dom, Ryan Dungey.

Last weekend, at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, #5 handled AMA Supercross biz in a dramatic display of premier moto racing. Going head to head with the sports best racers, Dungey, found himself battling for a top place finish in the final. The energy and unpredictability of the heat’s last three laps were enough to get the crowd on their feet and in true Dungey fashion took things right down to the wire. After an intense stalk and hard push, Dungey stole the 2nd place position from Kevin Windham’s grip, and finished right on the heels of an aggressive Ryan Villopoto, who narrowly took the win.

Dungey’s 2nd place finish in Indy maintains his tie for the points lead and sets the stage for a showdown, as the series continues in Atlanta this weekend. Be sure to catch Dungey and all the AMA Supercross action live, on Speed TV this Saturday.
Dungey Wins Again
Ryan Dungey has left the Supercross world scratching its head once again. Nobody can comprehend how this rookie is doing it weekend after weekend, but we've got an idea - the perfect balance of skill, smarts and pure speed. For the third time in as many races Dungey finds himself on the podium, and for the second time in a row Ryan walks away with the win.

The Belle Plaine, Minn native left it for late at Anaheim 2, but on the 14th lap Dungey gunned it to move from 2nd to 1st, and he never looked back. With the win, Ryan extends his points lead to 15 over the second-place rider on the night, Josh Hill.

“It was a fun race, and we all raced clean,” said Dungey. “I was able to see what lines were working out there, so I learned through the race. I tried to be patient out there tonight. Racing 20 laps is a long time, so you have to be smart.”

James Stewart showed he had recovered from his bad spill last weekend, as the defending champion spent the entire race battling for first. In the end, James finished third, but add that to his first-place finish in Anaheim two weeks ago and you can see a fun battle developing between Ryan and James.

What do you think - who's going to win next weekend? And, more importantly, who do you think is going to take the overall title in Vegas?
