Jossi And Andreas Take Three Out of Four AFP Titles

Ladies and gentlemen: this winter’s AFP World Tour titles have been awarded, and, get this—Nike 6.0 nabbed three out of four.

We’ll start with Andreas Hatveit, who secured the AFP Big Air title last week in an exhilarating one-jump finals for the Jon Olsson Invitational. The race for the title had been a nail-biter all season. Hatveit put himself in contention with solid early season results, including a bronze medal at Freestyle.ch in Zurich and a win at King of Style in Stockholm. However, it all came down to last week, when he dominated an international field, including top contender Russ Henshaw, with a double 1080 double mute to double Japan. This win boosted Hatveit 50 points higher than Henshaw in the AFP standings and thus earned him the revered AFP Big Air Title.

Andreas in action at JOI. Photo: Shay Williams

Says Hatveit about taking the Jon Olsson Invitational, “It was my 5th or 6th year here, and I was just here to have fun, so ending up winning was epicly awesome!”

Now, on to Jossi Wells, who not only added the AFP Superpipe title to his season’s accolades, but the Overall title, too.

Photo: Nate Abbott

And while Wells had had the Overall crown on lockdown since March, the Superpipe title was a little more elusive. The AFP compares the top 4 pipe results (as opposed to 3 for slopestyle and big air), so you have to be extremely consistent to clinch the Superpipe crown. Jossi managed to keep ahead in the tightly contested race by winning the New Zealand Open, grabbing 2nd place at the Breckenridge Winter Dew Tour, winning the Snowbasin Winter Dew Tour, and securing an esteemed silver medal at Winter X.

Congrats to Jossi and Andreas—huge high fives are in order!
TJ Schiller And Team Canada Take JOSS Awards

The evening of April 17 saw one of our favorite Canadians, TJ Schiller, cop the coveted Jon Olsson Super Sessions video award with his fellow Team Canada freeskiers Ian Cosco and Justin Dorey.

Held over two weeks in Are, Sweden, the third annual JOSS event pit 21 elite freeskiers and 14 fine filmmakers against each other on 7 different teams representing 7 nations. Each team was made up of five people—two filmers, two pro skiers and a rookie skier. Got it? The teams had 264 hours to unleash their talent on the features in and around Are. The ultimate goal was to create the most amazing and entertaining 5-minute edit. And Team Canada took it!

Canadian pride times a million...

According to Freeskier.com: “Team Canada’s video was full of humor, mild nudity, a nice bit of ski action, as it featured the three best friends on their two week JOSS adventure. One of the longer videos, the Canada edit displayed masterful camera-work and editing, which in unison, created an 8-minute piece of filmmaking that was easily the best edited.”

Nike skiers Jossi Wells and Simon Dumont were also there repping New Zealand and America, respectively—and Team America even won the People’s Choice Awards as the crowd favorite. Congrats to all!

TJ, large and in charge on the Jon Olsson jump.

Paddle over to the JOSS Web site and watch the winning video, as well as final edits by Teams Down Under and America.
Håtveit's Backyard Battle: Candy Invitational

With a spectacular lit up evening park, Andreas Håtveit hosted The Candy Invitational - his rail jam session at his Backyard Battle event. Nine of the best nordic freeskiers battled it out in Håtveit's backyard park rail line consisting of double kink rails, flat boxes, rail to gaps and much more. Check out the movie here.

With a two hour session mixed with dj sounds and searchlights, the riders laid down some spectacular runs with Alexander Aurdal taking the crown after laying down some excellent misty's off the launch rail. Finnish rider AJ Kamppanien came in second impressing with some perfect 360 switch ups on the up rail and right and left side pretzel's on the double kinks. Norwegian Thomas Dølplads come third with perfectly clean crowd pleasing left side 630's and right side 810's off the launch rail. Mention should go to Norwegian Sigbjørn Tviet who did some cool 630 front and blind sides off the launch rail, but bailed toward the end with a slight shoulder injury.
