Sammy Starts with a Bang

I was really stoked to start skiing again once I arrived in Switzerland for the Freestyle.Ch. I took a break from the southern hemisphere this summer. I needed to let my body rest and get strong. I had not skied in over a month it felt like forever! Once I saw the jump, like all city competitions, it looked pretty sketchy. This one had a really big compression where the unusually steep landing met the flat. I was really confident in the trick I wanted to do. Before the contest I told myself to just "have fun," which I did. I did a double cork 1080 - it felt smooth, just the way I wanted to do it. I ended up winning the semifinal, and going into the final I tried to remain calm. Boom, after what seemed like a quick flash, I won the Freestyle.ch. It was really cool to start my season off with a big win. I was training really hard this past summer in Whistler, Canada and Mt. Hood, Oregon. It felt good to feel my hard work paying off.

After Zurich, I flew home from Europe to Oregon. I was home for just enough time to get rid of my jet lag. Then it was time to fly back across to Berlin, Germany. I was super stoked to go to Berlin! I have heard a lot about Berlin growing up. I felt really fortunate to be able to check the city out. I flew in a day early so I could meet up with one of my friends I grew up with, who was in Europe studying abroad. It was a lot of fun, and I tried not to think about the contest too much, my confidence was high from the week before. We checked out the Berlin Wall, toured some museums - it was cool. Then it was time to get to work. The jump in Berlin was almost identical to the jump the previous week in Zurich. All the riders felt really comfortable right away. Everyone was throwing down like crazy. Double cork 12 followed by double cork 12, all day! In the end I ended up getting 2nd, which was cool. I stomped a double cork 12 off a relatively small jump so I gained confidence from the contest and Henrik Harlaut won. He's a good friend of mine, so I was pumped for him. Now I am back at home resting up and getting strong. I was lucky enough yesterday to hike up Mt. Hood a ways and ski my favorite run at Meadows resort, 1 Bowl. I skied 1 Bowl twice top to bottom - no rocks! Such a good feeling to link up turns again!

I hope everyone has a great winter and lots of POW days!

Dominating competition after competition, as well as producing killer video parts and photos all the while, Garrett Reynolds has influenced both the sport and the style of BMX. The Alli Show joins Reynolds in his hometown in New Jersey in the midst of a summer where he has taken the lead in the Dew Tour standings and won two NORA Cups. He is home to ride and shoot with friends, including Kevin Kiraly, and The Alli Show follows him to his favorite spots around his hometown, seeing where he got started. The pair then go to one of his favorite spots to ride, Philadelphia, getting a glimpse of what street riding and filming are like, all while learning what inspires Garrett to ride.
6.0 Music Delivery

Another week, another booming blast of tracks from the 6.0 vaults. This time we’ve bused in a legit line-up of music from all over the ol’ U.S. of A. Freshen’ up you’re soundtrack and peep what we’ve been listening to... it’s the juice.

Actresses beware and possibly flattered as FELT may be setting their sites on you! Together, the debonaire duo of Slug (Atmosphere) and Murs (Living Legends) are FELT. Having originally teamed up in 2002 along with hip-hop dom, The Grouch, FELT dropped their first album titled FELT: A Tribute to Christina Ricci. Reconnecting in 2005, the two tag-teamed a 2nd time, along with Ant of Atmosphere fame on production, to create FELT 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet. It’s 2009 and the boys are back in town once again... this time with the crisp addition of Aesop Rock’s production skills, FELT is set to drop it’s 3rd album on 11.17.09, appropriately titled FELT 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez. If you haven’t caught them yet, or you share in their undying love for forgotten B-List actresses, give these guys a spin.

Also featured this week is; Portland’s jangly root rockers The Shaky Hands, the reinvented southern hip-hop of Izza Kizza, in yo grill Queens-bred rapper Despot, and the face melting Wisconsin metal foursome Lazarus AD.
Nike 6.0 End of Season Shoot – Sweden, Spring 2009

Some of the Nike 6.0 snow Team finished up their 2009 winter season with a spring photo and filming session near Umea, deep in the heart of Sweden.

Five of our top national riders from the UK, France, Austria and Germany enjoyed a week-long series of private sessions on a selection of jumps, jibs and hips, custom built by Swedish shaper Andreas Gothnell.

Long evenings, sled tow-in's, sculpted features and on-slope barbeques made for a chilled out end of season session - though that didn't stop all the riders pulling out a banger or two for the lens.

Christofer Thelin (Skull Films) captured all the action on film, whilst Peter Lundström shot a collection of images for the Nike 6.0 2009 / 2010 ad campaign.

Check out all the action from Ben Kilner (UK), Ethan Morgan (DE), Gerome Mathieu (FR) Marc Swoboda (AUS) and Victor DeLaRue (FR) in the video section or click link below:
Coco Claims 'CT Win

In the surfing world, when your name is Coco Ho you're essentially royalty, and today Coco took her rightful place on the throne.

In powerful 2 - 3 foot surf at the Rip Curl Women's Pro Search in Portugal, Coco cemented her place as one of the top surfers in the world. The 18-year-old phenom was razor sharp all contest long, defeating former WCT champions Sofia Mulanovich (quarters) and Chelsea Hedges (finals) en route to her first World Tour victory, propelling the rookie up to third place overall on the Dream Tour.

“It feels so good to be on top,” Ho told the ASP. “I’m trying not to think about it too much. I love my trophy. When I started the year, I set a goal to make quarterfinals or better at every event in order to finish Top 5 by the end of the year, and I’m doing my best to accomplish that."

With a deep bag of tricks and competition smarts beyond her years, Coco looks set to establish herself as a podium fixture. In the meantime, the young Hawaiian just needs to work on her champagne game. It seems the hardest part of the contest was popping the cork after her win. But with the form she's in, she'll certainly get plenty of practice. In fact, her next chance will come next week at the Movistar Peru Classic, which is event number 5 of 7 on the World Tour.

A huge shaka goes out to Coco for the win and best of luck on the rest of the season.

(Check out all the action from the Rip Curl Search Final).
If you're looking for some trick before your treat this Halloween weekend, make sure to tune into MTV2 this Saturday at 11 p.m. EST to see Nick Taylor on The Alli Show. As you well know, Nick is at the forefront of a new group of wakeskaters who are taking the sport to entirely new places. The Alli Show meets up with him and two of 6.0's wakeboarders, Adam Errington and Eddie Valdez, in Nick’s adopted home of Carlsbad, Calif. They discuss how the sport is changing, how they are influenced by other board sports and how they are working to change the mentality of their own sport. Nick then takes The Alli Show with him as he meets up with teammate Ben Horan and others in Texas for the Nike 6.0 Aquafrolics video shoot, giving an inside look into the process of filming and what the world of wakeskating is all about.
Ryan Dungey—Transworld Racer Of The Year!

Ladies and Gentlemen: Ryan Dungey’s rampage continues! The Nike moto murderer just won 2009 Racer Of The Year at the esteemed Transworld Motocross Awards in Las Vegas. He faced some stiff competition for the title in the form of Chad Reed and fellow Nike rider James Stewart—but Dungey bagged the award after having taken the “Trifecta of Moto” this year: the West Coast Lites Supercross Title, the Outdoor National Title, and his recent win at the Motocross Des Nations. We can’t wait to see what Dungey dominates next!
After launching himself into the stratosphere, what's the first thing FMX phenom Lance Coury likes to do? Eat big, huge slices of pizza that's what. But, instead of calling in some cheap delivery, Lance takes matters into his own hands by throwing on a chef's hat and whipping up his own pie. Take a look as he walks you through the steps to perfecting your own home-cooked pizza.
Kai Gets Covered

There's no feeling like it in surfing: A late drop, bottom turn, drag your hand and pitted in the turquoise tunnel. This is a feeling Hawaii's Kai Barger is intimately familiar with, seeing as he's travelled the world and surfed some of the best waves the planet has to offer.

The only thing better than pulling into a perfectly cylindrical barrel is knowing that 6.0 Team Mentor and fearless photog, Jason Kenworthy is capturing the whole thing on film. And the result? Nothing less than the front cover of Surfer's coveted Photo Annual.

To see more images of Kai and fellow 6.0 surfers Dusty Payne, Michel Bourez and Malia Manuel head out and grab a copy of this timeless rag.
The 6.0 Mixed-Tape

Another blast of musical goodness hits Nike6.com as we continue to drop the dopest beats and share the newest bands emerging onto the scene. From hip-hop to indie rock, music from all corners of the globe has been buzzing in our ears and firing-up the 6.0 team to go bigger, badder and better.

One band we’ve gotten hip to in a hurry is Seattle’s rock-pop power trio The Lonely Forest. Since dropping their first EP “Regicide” in 2006, the band has been on a terror, whipping up three albums in as many years... most recently dropping “We Sing The Body Electric!” in April of 2009. The group’s rich, raw and wonderfully crafted party-ready sound has created a growing roar from the Pacific Northwest thats quickly picked up speed, traveling to lands near and far. Peep ‘em here.

Other noteworthy groups to check out on Nike6.com include the progressive-rock/hip-hoppin’ duo Look Daggers, Portland’s own two-headed indie rock beast Panther, the experimental electronic funk of Shafiq Husayn, and The Appleseed Cast front man Chris Crisci’s side project Old Canes.
Without a doubt one of the sickest BMX events to ever go down, the Nike 6.0 Tunnel Jam in England brought together 40 of the biggest and baddest riders in the world to do work. The guys were split into 10 different teams and then set loose to find the dopest, flowing line through the tunnel. Peep the video to see the ridiculous destruction they wrought on the park, and check out the 6.0 team that took top honors, which included the recently crowned Dew Cup champ, Garrett Reynolds, along with Dennis Enarson, Maxime Charveron and Bjorn Mager. And keep an eye out for Jason Phelan's Best Trick-winning throw down, Dan Lacey's Best Line and Sebastian Keep walking away with the title of Best Rider.
Garrett Wins Dew Park Cup

Say hello to your 2009 Dew Tour BMX Park overall champion, Mr. Garrett Reynolds!

To call the final in Orlando dramatic is like saying Garrett's having an OK year - a gross understatement. Garrett came into today's Park final as the overall points leader, but with the likes of Dave Mirra and Daniel Dhers nipping at his heels anything was possible. And indeed it looked like anyone's game after the first run, with both Mirra and Garrett crashing and Daniel stomping his way into the lead.

It all came down to the final round, and with Dhers failing to improve upon his first run the stage was set for a showdown between Mirra and Garrett - legend vs. upstart, old-guard vs. newschool. And the Miracle Man did his thing hammering a bunny hop backflip off the wall ride to put the pressure squarely on Garrett's shoulders. But the young man rose to the challenge, putting together a flowing run that linked technical wizardry throughout. However, with one bobble at the end the deal was anything but sealed. Garrett dropped to the floor after his run to await his fate - 7th place. Not his best performance, but good enough to hold off Mirra and Dhers. Hey, sometimes you lose the fight but win the war, and Garrett definitely won the war.

Garrett was mobbed by friends and family as the commentators announced him the winner of the 2009 Dew Tour Park Cup!

For his efforts, Garrett walked away with the Dew Cup and a watch the size of a Cadillac. That's what you get when you're 19 and one of the best riders in the world. Young, gifted and paid - it definitely does not suck to be Garrett Reynolds!
Orlando Dew Tour Finals: BMX Preview

While other pros have been training, preparing and maybe even stressing on the upcoming Dew Tour BMX Park Finals, in Orlando, the world’s best street rider has been doing just that... street riding. Hanging out with Garrett Reynolds for the last two months, you’d never know that the dude who’s been crushing the streets of Barcelona is postured to win the 2009 BMX Park title.

“Garrett's just different. He’s riding for the love of the sport. He’s not training and worrying about Orlando, but still rides his bike every single day,” said Mark Losey, 6.0 BMX mentor, “whether there was prize money or not, Garrett would still be out there pushing this sport to the limit.”

It just so happens that aside from love for the sport, Garrett also has unquestionable superman talent and a clear shot at claiming this season’s Tour Cup in BMX Park. Entering the finals, he holds the overall points lead and if his performance throughout the season is any indication of how the finals will go down, he’ll be leaving as the world’s best park rider.

World’s best street AND park rider? Wha’chu know bout that!

Catch Garrett tomorrow, on NBC and MTV2, as he battles for the 2009 title at the Dew Tour BMX Park Finals. Also be sure to check out Dennis Enarson tonight in the BMX Dirt finals, as he returns from a broken wrist and competes for a victory in Orlando.
