Thievery Corporation x CSS
14 July 2011
We’re dotting the globe with tracks from this week’s musical refresh. Touching down on three continents, at some of the best summer locales in the world… this is warm weather feel good kinda stuff.Formed in the good ol’ days of ‘95, Washington D.C.’s DJ duo, Thievery Corporation, came together out of a mutual love for club life, vinyl records and social awareness. Self proclaimed; craftsman of “musical soundscape,” Eric Hilton and Rob Garza fluidly combine an electronic, trip-hop, jazz, down-tempo funk sound in an ongoing exploration of rare grooves and audial relaxation. Cutting tracks in English, Spanish, French, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian and Hinid it’s no surprise that these guys take inspiration from all ends of the world.
Shooting south, the Brazilian rock band CSS makes a laid back appearance on this week’s refresh. Short for “Cansei de Ser Sexy,” the band’s name translates direct as “tired of being sexy.” Not sure that’s a problem everyone has, but we feel their pain. Taking shape in Sao Paulo around 2003, the five-member band gained notoriety through the underground club scene, Brazil’s thriving creative community and of course that damn world-wide-web. Watch for the bands junior album, “La Liberacion,” to drop in August 2011.
Other artist to be aware of would include Cuckoo Chaos laying down a crunk fusion indie out of San Diego, LA minimalist concrete pop from Princeton, and the ambient sounds from Paris’ own Total Warr.
