6.0 Ladies Sweep Supergirl Pro Junior
16 August 2010
The 6.0 ladies held it down at the third annual Supergirl Pro Junior in Oceanside, CA. Coco Ho claimed the first place spot, Malia Manuel came in a close second and Lakey captured third. The rest of the field surfed in an expression session before the finals where Carissa Moore came out victorious. Coco got off to a slow start in the Final matchup, but battled through the small conditions to surpass Malia in the back half of the heat. "Malia started out the finals so strong, I thought she had it in the bag," Ho said in a press release. "I'm so glad I got a few good waves." Coco walked away with a nice $10,000 check for her efforts, part of the largest prize purse in ASP Women's Pro Junior history.
Malia cranked out some of the event's highest scores, but was unable to stop Coco. Her second place finish solidifies her No. 2 position on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series ratings. Lakey's third place finish pushes her to No. 3 on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series, making her the highest rated North American surfer on the regional ratings.
