Now that the USA Women’s Hockey team has wrapped up their Winter Games competition, I figured it would be nice to get off the ice and get a change of scenery. But, who am I kidding, these women are just as competitive as I am. Whether I’m playing in a championship baseball game or video games, I want to win. The same goes for forward Julie Chu, goalie Jessie Vetter and defenseman Angela Ruggiero...I thought go carting would be appropriate.
Here I am with three of the world’s best hockey players, wearing racetrack suits and helmets. Personally I thought this was a great idea. It was the first time I would be able to compete on an even playing field with these three super athletes. However, I still found a way to finish dead last.
Maybe it was the fact that my racing name was Slow Mo, or maybe it was because I managed to get lost on a circular track. Don’t ask me how I pulled this off, but I ended up in parking. Whatever it was that caused me to finish in last, ladies, I want a rematch!
The competition hasn’t finished between the USA Women’s Hockey Team and I. I need to bounce back similar to the way Jessie Vetter and Julie Chu have vowed to utilize their disappointing loss to Canada as motivation. They said it themselves; they won’t be satisfied until they have the gold. Who could blame them? This year’s USA hockey team is overflowing with team chemistry, more than I have seen in all of my athletic experience. They hang out on their free time, they plan vacations together and they play like a true team.
Now that Angela is a member of the IOC, Jessie and Julie will need to pick up the leadership and competitiveness Angela has brought for years. So maybe in another four years I can get my revenge against these women, right after Julie and Jessie get theirs against Canada. Hopefully Sochi, Russia has some good go cart racetracks!
Ladies, I’ll be ready.
