So you finally figured out that being active and working out can really have positive effects on your body, but unfortunately, you have decided to take a trip somewhere and you are away from your gym or your personal training methods at home. The question is: How do you continue to work out when you are traveling in unfamiliar places when your backyard lap swimming pool is not coming along for the ride and your gym is not located in the area you are headed. This situation has happened to me numerous times over the years and I have found some fun and inexpensive ways to help stay in shape while on the road.
1.Always bring your training shoes. You can always slip on your shoes and go for a brisk walk or run, but just make sure to map out your traveling area so you do not risk getting lost.
2.Invest in some resistance bands. Resistance training has been proven to help maintain a steady metabolism by elongating and increasing the strength of the muscles without bulking up the body. These bands can be used anywhere and there are many different techniques and exercises that can be found online to help guide you.
3.Prior to leaving for your trip, do your research. Find out if the place you are traveling to has any public parks that offer trails for walking, running or hiking. Another idea is if there are trails, chances are there are places to rent bikes for the day. This is a great way to keep in shape while having fun and there is a chance to save money on other traveling expenses.
4.Check for local gyms in the area. Many times, you can go to a gym and try it free for a week or if you explain you are away from home, there are typically discounted daily and weekly rates to use the facility.
5.If you are by the beach, take advantage of the huge body of water and go for a swim. You can also go for a long walk along the beach and look for shells, incorporating something fun while training.
6.If you are staying in a place that offers a workout facility, utilize it!
7.Since you are in an unfamiliar place, get to know it better by walking around. If you walk around to “take it all in” and better familiarize yourself with the settings, you will burn calories not even knowing it and you will save money on gas and other travel expenses because you're walking.
These are just a few ideas to help save money and continue to work out while on a vacation. Make sure to keep things simple and fun while you are away because remember, this is your time away. It is seemingly very easy to get out of a routine when away from your home, but if you keep busy with fun and active activities, you will be keeping yourself healthy while enjoying your trip away.
