When I first became a Nike Correspondent, I knew that I was becoming apart of an all star roster, and I knew that it was going to change my life in many new positive ways. Now being a correspondent for quite some time now, I am astonished by how much I have grown as a writer, a reporter, and a person. The Nike Field Reporter Program has supported me in so many ways, giving me opportunities, a voice, and making dreams come true beyond imaginable.
Being apart of the Nike Field Reporter program has pushed me to get local stories about ordinary individuals who create extraordinary change. To those young people who play sports, go to college, juggle the many things you have to do in life, and fight even harder when things don’t go your way, I admire you. To those of you who are still unsure about what you want to do in life, and feel confused, I believe in you. To those of you who are living your dream and get what you want, I respect you. Because we all know life is not always easy, but good and bad experiences make life so worth it!
In this past year I felt the pressure of having to juggle the many responsibilities I hold in life, but when you reach out into your community and talk to people, these pressures really do get relieved. To those individuals that I interview, you’ve done me and many other young women a favor by continuing the community of support and letting others know, “You aren’t alone in the pressures you face, and you do not have to be. We want you to know you are powerful beyond measure, and that you are a super star and you can do it!”
Everyone has the ability to be an ordinary individual who creates extraordinary change; Those of you who do inspire me and given me perspective. Everyday I am reminded that no matter what obstacles come your way, you have to treat life like sport, which consists of positive mind over matter thinking. There is no changing that state of min, especially during those times when things don’t work out the first time. Remember, “Don’t complain, be the change.”
I want you to remember even if you are not into sports that doesn’t mean you can’t be apart of the Nike Field Reporter family. We are about being your own person, being strong individuals and influential women. A great way to demonstrate your leadership is by being your own role model. Do not let anything hold you back. Fight for you dreams, and believe in yourself, even if nobody else does. Because when it most matters, it is the choices that you make that are what are going to define your character, and that is what is going to define your legacy.
I love the Nike Field Reporter program because we share a mutual vision to get women involved in their community, utilize their leadership, and be a change agent, or as Nike says it "gamechanger."
Be active. Be apart of your community. Be a role model. Be a gamechanger. What do you want to be remembered for?
