He was born there. He grew up there. He collected the 2006 league rookie of the year there, and in 2007 he scored in his national team debut. He's since set club records for games and minutes played. All in California.
Now Jonathan Bornstein is leaving his comfort zone.
Beginning in January, the 25-year-old defender moves to Monterrey, Mexico, to test his skill in a different league with a different playing style.
It's a challenge that offers valuable experience. Sometimes, to get better, you have to make a change.
