Torino Laces Up

08 December 2009

tags: Lace Up Save Lives, inter milan, juventus, red
Juventus vs Inter Milan is never just a soccer game, but this year the Italian derby had a special meaning. Players all over the field wore (NIKE)RED laces to fight against AIDS in Africa, while the stadium was transformed completely red.

Olimpico of Turin, home of the Italian for more than 100 years, sprang to life with a new color for the first time--RED. Fans still donned their white and black or blue and black, but the stadium wore red. The nets, the benches, the tunnels--everything read "Lace Up Save Lives."

In solidarity for the fight, the city of Turin turned Mole Antoneliana, the most famous city symbol, red as well. Under a glowing sunset, RED was inescapable.

Juventus won the game, but all of Turin was laced up.
