Finish Strong

Finish strong – we’ve all heard the phrase before. As domestic US leagues are beginning their campaigns, Americans abroad are finding their seasons coming to a close. And the Yanks are showing the Euros they know how to finish strong.

The past week saw two MNT defenders find the back of the net, finishing on two powerful headers. Gooch managed to mark a tally for Standard Liege in a 2-1 victory, securing a position for the club in next year’s Belgian top-flight.

Carlos Bocanegra also scored this past weekend, netting his squad’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss in the French Cup final.

As if that’s not enough fire for the MNT’s defense, starting goalie Tim Howard posted his club-record 16th shutout of the season.

Yep, it seems that the American’s playing abroad in Europe are seeing more and more playing time, and having increasingly more important roles on their respective sides (see a full list here).
