It’s not often a player scores 4 goals in a game.
Especially at the highest level.
Especially in an elite team showdown.
Especially if he only has four shots in the whole game.

But Andrei Arshavin showed off his unparalleled 2-footed technical skills, his footspeed, his big heart, his unrelenting accuracy and his sheer audacity when he dispatched four arrows to the heart of Arsenal’s big four rivals from just four Superfly-assisted shots. That’s 100% execution of pure football brilliance.

Don’t expect anyone anywhere to repeat that performance anytime soon.

Respect to Yossi Benayoun’s two Superfly goals in the same game. It’s just a shame he scored on a night when perfection was in the air.

Howard Stonewalls United

Posted by Gronamo Apr 20, 2009

Big players come up big in critical moments. And it doesn't get much more critical than a penalty shootout in the semifinals of the FA Cup. Unfazed by the moment, America's shutout specialist, Tim Howard did what he does best against Premier League leaders Man United. Nil-nil after 120 minutes, Everton and United traded spot-kicks to decide who would move on to the final. In true Timmy fashion, Howard stonewalled his former club's first two shooters to pave the way for Everton's historic victory.

On May 30 the Toffees will take on Chelsea in their first FA Cup final in 14 years. And with Howard between the posts, it's easy to see why Everton fans are brimming with confidence.

Make Fast Your Friend

Posted by gabejazzy Apr 14, 2009

Vaporize your opponents with the new Mercurial Vapor FG, the fastest women’s boot Nike has ever put on the pitch. The Mercurial Vapor FG has a Teijin microfiber upper that adjusts to the contours of your foot, creating a perfect fit every time. And its streamlined construction makes it one of the lightest in the game. But don’t let its feather weight fool you – this cleat is as tough as they come, with covered lacing for an extra large ball strike area and direct injected heel studs that let you cut on a dime. Combine that with a foot-hugging chassis built for speed and you’ve got a cleat that doesn’t just compete – it dominates.

US Women’s National Team member Carli Lloyd on the new Mercurial Vapor FG:

“I feel great in the new Vapor. It’s a perfect fit. I like the colors and the weight of it, and I also like the materials – it’s a bit of a softer feel than the old Vapors. I’m not distracted at all because the boot feels great. They’re comfortable and allow for a great touch on the ball.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

The pursuit of speed never rests. And just a year after the Mercurial SL blazed through the game, the latest Mercurial boot is tearing into defences.

Mercurial Superfly is inspired by a revolutionary construction method first developed for the world’s leading sprinters. Nike Flywire uses super-light filaments to support to the foot with minimal materials, keeping the weight down and the speed of the world’s fastest players up.

Innovative drill-through studscombine with a 7-layer carbon-fibre outsole to fuse lightweight design, strength and flexibility – giving players the speed and traction to dance through defences.

CR7, the Mercurial’s favourite son, has already made his mark in the Superfly, racing clear to head home against Inter Milan. Add that to his first Premier League hat-trick on his Mercurial Vapor IV debut and his match-winning strike in the Mercurial SL on Europe’s biggest night in Moscow and you understand the power of speed.

The Superfly has landed. Sorry defenders.

Three's a Charm

Posted by gabejazzy Apr 2, 2009

There’s nothing like quality service, and Landon and the rest of the MNT demonstrated exactly what this meant in their rout of Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night.

Landon assisted on all of his teammates' goals, propelling the team to a convincing 3-0 win and putting them atop the hexagonal for 2010 qualifying.

Fans viewing the game on Wednesday were probably swearing that they were watching a different team than the one they had seen the previous Saturday. No surprise there, as Coach Bradley made a number of changes from Saturday’s draw vs. El Salvador, and they all seemed to work like magic.

Between the new 4-4-2 formation, Beas going to left back and Donovan to left flank, the US attack looked invigorated and dynamic, creating chance after chance throughout the game. The US converted on a world-class beauty in the 13th minute when Landon delivered a laser-guided pass to his teammate on the far post. The Soca Warriors’ defense looked helpless as the ball was tapped in for a lead in the 13th minute.

With Tim Howard and Oguchi Onyewu back in the lineup, the lead was never relinquished as the back line held the Soca Warriors to just one SOG.

So if you had any pangs of doubt after the 2-2 tie, let them be gone now. The O is clicking and the D is back to its rock-solid self. Matchday 4 comes in two months as the US heads back down to Central America to face Costa Rica. See you then.

You wouldn’t buy a sports car and pack the boot with lead. The same goes for a football boot. Modelled on the most economical of support structures, the Mercurial Superfly’s new Flywire design system is as efficient at load-bearing as the suspension bridge that inspired it.
With the lightest, strongest ever material between your feet and the ball, the featherweight Superfly combines killer touch with match-winning speed. Great news for forwards, terrible news for defenders.

Look out defenders, Mercurial Superfly is coming. And it’s fast. The fastest boot in football is built on three key innovations.

Flywire technology provides the greatest stability from the lightest materials. Ultra-efficient dual density studs, give total traction at defence-beating speeds. And a revolutionary 7-layer carbon-fibre outsole mixes speed, strength and flexibility to help you get behind any back four.

The developers behind the Superfly overhauled every inch of its design to give Nike players the weapon they need to strike the killer blow come match day. And because our products always start with the player, it was input from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Alexandre Pato and Theo Walcott that made the Superfly the boot it is today.

Press ‘Play’ to see it in all its turf-burning glory.
