Introducing the City Pack

September 01, 2010

To run in the city is to feed off its energy, its variety, its controlled chaos. It is the only place to keep pace with the traffic, beat stoplights and chase unwitting, anonymous rivals down side streets. The City Pack is a collection of unique LunarGlide2+ designs that celebrate the world’s greatest running cities, and all those who charge through them.

New York:
THE BRONX
With two of the four largest parks in Gotham, including famed Van Cortlandt Park, the Bronx is the home of the best XC action in the country. Over the decades, hundreds of thousands of pros, collegiates, and high-schoolers alike have hit the flats and the back hills of the Vanny, making it the epicenter of off-road running in the epicenter of the Western World.

Chicago:
THE LAKEFRONT
Go during the summer, and you’ll mistakenly think you’re in the middle of a 5K road race, unless you actually are (they’re common). Go during the winter, and you’ll get nods of respect from the few fellow bad-asses around. So while your out-and-back route on this vast and uninterrupted ribbon of crushed limestone remains unchanged, the experience of running Chicago’s pedestrian freeway is never the same.

Beijing:
CHAOYANG PARK
Just tuck some money in your shorts and pay the ticket required to get inside: Chaoyang is worth the price of admission. Roughly 8K of paved pathways around the largest park in Beijing give you plenty of time to take in both the natural scenery and some unreal additions to the landscape, with amusement park rides, a bungee-jumping platform, concert venues, swimming pools, and sculpture gardens among them.

Berlin:
VOLKSPARK FRIEDRICHSHAIN
The best way to tell whether a park is good for running is to look at who’s running in it. And you’ll find everyone, from tortoises to hares hugging up and down the rolling terrain of Friedrichshain’s various paths. Done running? The café, beer garden, and open-air cinema all offer a great way to cool down.
