Introducing a New Way to Track Your Heart Rate Progress

June 07, 2010

Now you can put more heart into every run by tracking your heart rate with the new Polar Wearlink+ Transmitter. Just fit the strap snugly around your chest and take it for a spin to hear spoken feedback and see your beats per minute during your Nike+ iPod workout, or see the same information while you run with the Nike+ SportBand. And that’s just the start of it. Nikeplus.com gives you an even better read on your progress.

See your run curve through a heart rate lens.
Once you’ve uploaded your run to Nikeplus.com, with one toggle of a button, switch from pace view to see how your heart rate changes over the course of your run, and see how many beats per minute you average.

Use the range finder for a better read on your workout.
On your Nikeplus.com run curve, you can adjust the range finder to see what percentage of your workout is spent in a specific heart rate zone.

Compare your heart rate runs to see progress over time.
After every heart rate run, you can rate your intensity level to keep track of how you feel from one workout to the next. That way, when you take a look at all your heart rate runs together, you can see how you feel as your average heart rate and pace trend up or down.

erm... if you're already wearing a sports bra, wouldn't this end up sitting too low? At least, it looks like it would be really uncomfortable if you were wearing it as well as a bra. Why not just design a device for women that can be worn inside a sports bra, or incorporated into it, and a strap version for men? The ad aside, looks like this was designed by dudes, for dudes...

I've been using a Nike Triax Elite system for a

MOST Polar products will work with the Polar/Nike+ Transmitter. (different transmitter than Polars other stuff, this is special for Nike). Anything that is 5kHz. So...
FS1, FS2, FS3, FT4, FT7, FT40, FT60, FT80, F6, F11, F55, RS100, RS300x, RS400, S625x, all of their old stuff, CS100, CS200, CS300...

It WILL work with the Nike + Sportband OR Nano 5g..

They have not released any info on compatibility with Iphone or Itouch. So it is safe to say NO it is not currently compatible.

Been using the Nike+ kit for a while now and there are a lot of missing features on it that Adidas seems to have addressed in their miCoach. I might make the switch even if it cost more. Their coaching program works better. and for those that don't want to wear the HR strap they make a shirt and sports bra that houses the sensor, maybe it will work for the Polar nike one for those that are having issues. So far very dissapointed with the Nike+ kit but happy with the Nike shoe line. Fix Nike+ pls

Doesn't currently work with iPhone (any model).
Only works with iPod Nano 5th gen (the tall
narrow one with integrated Nike+ receiver) or the
Sportband. It does not look like it works with any
iPods that require the Nike+ plugin receiver that
goes into the bottom of the iPod.

It works with the Polar watches, but existing Polar
sensors will not work with Nike+ system.

I had a second version Nano and I just bought a 5th Generation what a difference. I noticed to use the Nike + features you needed the receiver attached to the Nano! You also need the new chest strap, because it has a 5 gig-a- hertz frequency, so unless your Polar watch comes with a 5-giga hertz chest strap, you have to buy one, just like I do. However I believe that some Polar watches have the new 5-gig strap you have to check it out to make sure.

I love this monitor. I have used Polar monitors for years. Before getting the Nike+ sensor, I got a new Polar F6. Honestly it has dropped out quite a few times during my runs (which had never happened with previous monitors). I decided to get the Nike+ monitor after I started training with the sensor. This monitor is awesome. I love it. Hasn't missed a beat in the two weeks (and 9 runs) that I have used it on.

1 year, 6 months ago

I use it with the Nike sportabnd (which I love also). I started off with the iPod touch but that was to cumbersome on the arm or hanging anywhere else. I play my music thru a iPod shuffle now. Last week I ran in the rain, soaking wet. The Nike + gear (all items) hung in there with no problems (including the heart rate monitor). I ran thru a puddle so even the shoe sensor got soaked. Everything worked like a charm. The only thing that dies (until it dried out) was the iPod shuffle :-)

Wearlink has a replaceable battery it will be
cheaper in the long run. I was really excited to
hear about Nike+ working with Wearlink. Then I
found out that it's a NEW special Nike+ Wearlink,
NOT the one that Polar was selling before. And of
course the NEW Nike+ transmitter won't work with

I would have expected the Nike+ & iphone 3Gs to
become a killer app, which at moment is far from
being one. It's not a value for money kit and the
pollar strap not being compatible to iPhone 3Gs is
not a shame- it's a fraud. Instead of paying 19
USD I could have bought for less than 4 USD(and
2 clicks away by app store) an app that will give
me the same measurements. Personally I feel
deceived!!!

What a nightmare. Staff in the Nike shop in Dubai doesn't know a thing what works and not. In fact they completely dispute the fact that the polar solution exists. Their Branch Manager doesn't know a bit more. After a workout of back and forth and buying bits not necessary if they would know their suff I now hopefully have a working solution with the sportsband and the nike+polar one. What i can't believe is that the thingy doesn't work with the iPhone(s). ok, old iPod's is "just" acceptable

Doesn't it make more sense if it worked with Nike heart rate straps instead of Polaris?! Since the 5th gen iPod came out they say the sensor works with heart straps but they never mention which and you cant find a list of compatible straps anywhere. I bought a Nike Triax strap figuring that if any strap would work with a Nike sensor it had to be a Nike strap, right? Wrong. This is good news for those who still dont have a HRM. I dont care, mine is fine.

Really disappointed... Bought it under the advice of a Nike Store employee that it would work with my iPhone 3GS. It absolutely doesn't, even with the unreleased iOS 4.1 version of Nike+ (that allows wireless sync with Nike+ online)

I checked a friend's iPhone 4 running iOS 4 and it doesn't work with that either.

You can't even use the iPod reciever to make it work, because the iPhone already has a Nike+ reciever.

FAIL.

I have yet to find the way to make this thing work. It requires an ipod nano v5. Both apple tech support and polar have no documentation on how to make device function. Bad Apple!

this should definitely have been an upgrade to the
wristband. I would rather have paid the complete
price of the chest band and the wristband for a
combo unit then to buy two separate units. This
would be sweet if it were all on the bracelet, point
blank.

This product is AMAZING! I can't get over how well it works. The treadmill I favor also happens to read the Polar HRM trannsmission. Also turns out my Skullcandy headphones can activate the spoken commands. WELL worth the money spent.

I use the new heart rate monitor. I've been training
with the Polar monitor and polar watch. Know I do
both, it reports to my watch and records on my
Nike+. The only draw back right now is I had to
get a 5th Generation Nano. Its the only thing the
heart rate monitor reports to. But it reports to it
and Polar at the same time.

not interested. don't get me wrong, I luv my Nike+ running stats on my iPod touch and on the website. plain & simple, but I am moving up the ladder to a garmin watch. has anyone checked those bad boys? it will not make me retire my ipod, nope. but Garmin connect on their website is quite a kick_a$$ tool. again, not dissing me Nikes, I LUV it badly. all I am saying is something should remain simple and not try to reinvent the wheel/conquer the world. later.!

Also works with the new 6th Gen Ipod Nano, with the Nike+ Sportskit (shoe sensor and transmitter that plugs in). I imagine that if it works with that "touch based" Ipod, one that works wirelessly with Ipod touch can't be far behind.

just got a nike+ ipod(nano 4g)...can't figure out
how to set it up for a free run...had to select the

manual that you have an setting tab, couldn't find
that either... is any support for this stuff or am i
better of just buying a garmin watch?

Hi,

I just bought the new iPod Nano and the Polar Wearlink. I already had Nike shoes with the Nike+ sensor.

Can I present speed and heart rate in the same graph? I only manage to register one of the two.

Regards,

David
