Wow! Saturday morning at Niketown rocked. Shalane Flanagan and Sammy Wanjiru came to Nike’s final marathon kick-off run before the BIG day! They both shared a few words of wisdom, telling the Nike crew to take it easy on their shake-out run and enjoy the experience on the marathon course. Both of them will be watching the race in anticipation of running it one day, perhaps even next year.

Shalane was down to earth and friendly. We talked to her for a few minutes and learned that she would be riding in the lead car of the marathon, next to Mary Wittenberg. Sammy, who is really young–only 22 years old and already a Chicago Marathon Champion–was soft spoken, but that didn’t keep some of Nike’s runners from talking his ear off. We were lucky to a get a few pics with the two superstars and we were really psyched that they joined Nike’s final kick-off run and wished us well.
