Nike+ on the new iPhone 3GS

June 08, 2009

Athletes now have another way to connect with Nike+: The Apple iPhone 3GS.

Recently launched and now available for purchase, the iPhone 3GS, along with the iPod Touch, includes built-in Nike+ iPod support to help you monitor your workout.

How does it work? Just place your Nike+ sensor in a Nike+ ready shoe (such as the soon-to-be launched LunarGlide+, pictured here), and you¹ll connect with iPhone 3GS to track distance, calories, pace and time during a run or sync with gym equipment. Since the Nike+ functionality is built into the phone, you no longer need a receiver.

So, take your pick from the four ways to run with Nike+: the iPod Nano, Nike+ Sportband, iPod Touch, and now the iPhone 3GS.

Not a part of the Nike+ community yet? There are currently almost 2 million Nike+ members, and as of January 2009, Nike+ members have logged more than 100 million miles, the equivalent of 200 trips to the moon.

I would LOVE it...if it WORKED. Am I the only one having issues with their iPhone and sensor staying in sync on a treadmill. It is constantly loosing connection (and therefore is not accurate) while I am in the middle of a run and will not reconnect no matter what I do. Anyone else? I have called Apple and Nike re this issue. Neither are helpful - some one please rewrite this app. The same sensor and shoe work with my nano...HELP!

Nike+ app really works great on the 3gs and I have to say it really motivates you to reach your goals... Kudos to Nike and Apple.

Good question about the 3G. I can't believe the
smart people at Apple neglected to make the 3G
iPhone compatible with Nike +.

I'm working out on a treadmill that tracks this info.
It saves it on my 3gs and then uploads to this
sight. It'd be awesome to keep track of all of my
runs on the iPhone. A full app tracking my
exercising with your data would be brilliant. I'll
write it if you want!

I love using nike+ on my 3gs, but is there a way
to keep incoming calls from interrupting you while
you run?

I've been using the Nike+app on my 3GS for a
while now and have not had the problems I had
with my nano. The only thing is I set my Nike+ to
calibrate and it did not count my run. Won't do
that again. I also found with my nano if I did not
position my sensor in my shoe correctly it would
turn off and the nano would lose signal. Just
sayin'. Also I like to say all you folks out there on
the Nike train are the best travel mates!!

I was using Runkeeper, but just purchased the
Nike+ sensor. Runkeeper gave me a map of my
runs, but I can not find that on the Nike+ site. Am
I missing something, or does Nike NOT offer this
feature? I can not believe that the free
Runkeeper app does MORE than the Nike+ app.

robynicolwalker - staying connected and or reconnecting sensor. Go to settings scroll down to the nike+ icon, go to Sensor and click link new. that did the trick for me. good luck

This is an outstanding app... A must have ...The
only thing missing is that the iphone syncs with
the web page, but the web page doesn't sync
with the iphone. It would be great to send
custom workout goals to the iphone.. or am I
missing something?

Mine does not work with my iphone but does with the nano...so the chip is good. Someone needs to fix the program.

It's not an "app issue" or a jailbreak issue, it's a hardware issue. The 3G S added an radio that supports the foot chip. you can still use the plug-in receiver with your iPhone 3G, just as you'd use the receiver with a Nano.

Any recommendations for a belt clip good enough to run with the iPhone?

It’s an excellent app, but mine is a little off as far as miles ran. There is a way to calibrate it, but I just want to make sure I get it as accurate as I can. It is a cool feeling when you press the button on the IPod and a voice tells you your miles ran, and your pace. It definitely gives you that little extra push.

Hi - I'm having a hard time with keeping my workouts going... whenever I start running the thing stops. I'll end up with ten different runs over a period of time, and its super frustrating. Any advise?

There was nikemix in "Nike + ipod". But It is disapeared after iTunes' sync. How I open it again?

I had problems before with the sensor not sync
with my iTouch. Bought a new sensor, problem
solve! Another thing that I've tried and worked is
disable the Nike+ app, reseting the iTouch and
enable it again.

I experienced the same problems with my iphone
when running on the treadmill it loses the
connection several times during my run. Again it
works perfectly with my nano also.

I'd like the ability to upload my workouts directly from the iPhone (currently you need to sync with iTunes to send the workout data to the website). It's an internet connected device, after all.

Why can't they add functionality to uplaod your work out directly from your phone? Don't like wasting time syncing with itunes all the time. Annoying.

Hi, I have iPhone4 & Nike+ app. I am registered with Nike+ website for some time, yet downloaded app only recently. The iPhone sends data automatically to website & updates it, yet the iPhone only contains recent history, can it retro update history so iPhone is up to date too?
