Felix and Company Take Down Record at Penn

May 02, 2011

Allyson Felix and the US sprinters stole the show at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Over 50,000 fans packed into Franklin Field to watch the USA vs. World portion of the Penn Relays and they were treated to some blistering performances.

Felix and fellow Nike athlete Carmelita Jeter helped the women’s 4x100 meter relay team pull away from rivals Jamaica on their way to setting a new Penn Relays record of 42.28, besting the previous mark which had stood for over a decade.

Felix’s day wasn’t finished though. She came back to run a leg on the women’s winning 4x400 meter relay team which Sanya Richards-Ross anchored in her first major race since coming back from injury. The veteran showed no signs of rust, powering down the homestretch to run 51.1 and secure the American womens’ second victory of the day.

The USA men also brought home a title in the 4x400 relay. Bershawn ‘Batman’ Jackson blazed a 45.58 to pull ahead of the Bahamas before handing off to Angelo Taylor who split 44.59 to close out the final event of the USA vs. World portion of the meet with a convincing American victory.
