The Electric Highway Continues

October 29, 2009

Almost one year of running: the before & after. This is a good reminder to me that running is a commitment to a different lifestyle not a short-term hobby.

In case you thought the Nike+ Human Race was the end, I'm here to tell you it's only the beginning!

I'm so proud of my teammates on the Electric Highway. Looking at the runners to mileage ratio, it was clear we had our work cut out for us. While it's true total mileage wasn't nearly as important as finishing the 10K on race day, I knew that odds were much higher that beginners would flounder and stop short of the goal.

But you didn't. You made it. You trained with us, ached with us, smiled with us, and finished the 10K with us. On October 24th, team Electric Highway ran together all over the country.

My question to you now is: "Where will the Electric Highway take you next?"

For some of us it will mean setting bigger and loftier goals like half marathons & marathons. For some it will mean a faster 10K. And for others it will mean implementing running into their weekly schedule in a way that shapes their future. Dare I say that the Electric Highway shapes futures?

That's why it's only the beginning. When running gets into your life, it changes so much. It changes your routines and pattern. It alters your relationships and social habits. It takes your life in a different direction. Sure, you could walk away from it--but why? I want to offer one last challenge to you: continue to make running an integral part of your life. Run on the Electric Highway for fun, for fitness, for community, or just because it feeds your soul.

You, Electric Highway, are now runners. Own up to it.
