The past blogs have focused on everything from gaining inspiration from athletes who faced physical challenges but went on to succeed, to believing in yourself as a runner, to staying motivated through music.
Another place motivation is found is through the joy of running seen through the eyes of others. For the Nike+ Human Race in Chicago this year, we had a group of runners who were in elementary and middle school come run the race with us. They were involved in a program where they are training for a 5k as part of an afterschool program. Especially in our society today, getting physical fitness requires a lot of effort on one’s part. Many schools have eliminated their team sports program and many children only have gym class once a week. This program helps participants develop endurance and self esteem, and hopefully, a passion for running. It was inspiring to see them so excited to run as we started the 10k. They all received Nike + Human Race shirts so they felt like real runners competing in a race for the first time.
I just wanted to say thank you and great job to all of the participants who completed the Nike + Human Race. The weather was not favorable in Chicago but we made it through and had a great time running with friends, family, children, and against the world. Looking forward to the Nike + Human Race 2010, see you there!
