Agrikulture Performs at Human Race Singapore

October 21, 2009

Agrikulture is Indonesia’s leading electronic music crew, fronted by two of the most hip DJ’s in town, Anton and Hogi. You’re not part of the town’s hipster scene if you never dance to their beat. Agrikulture was originally formed by Anton Wirjono and Aditya; together they started by remixing influential Indonesian pop bands and playing live sets in clubs. A year later, Hogi returned from San Francisco, with an arsenal of producing know how and musical experience. Agrikulture recently recruited three new members, lead vocalist Irfandy aka FanDFMC an icon in the indie scene and two time best Paranoia Awards Best Mc winner, Emil Pahlevi on guitars and Dipha (Juice Best DJ 2008) on bass.

Agrikulture is set to perform at the Nike+ Human Race 10K so get ready to be electronized. Along side them, there are five other bands headlining the event, they are; Composition_B (Singapore), Taken By Cars (Philippines), Chicosci (Philippines), Estranged (Malaysia), and Thaitanium (Thailand).

Agrikulture will perform at F1 pit Concert Area, Tunnel Stage. (07:45 AM)
.

In the mean time, we managed to steal their time for a little Q & A, talking about their music and its relation with running. Enjoy our interview with the guys from Agrikulture..

Q: Do any of you run? How do you keep fit? Is this how you keep your stamina during a performance?
Some of us run, many of us ride bikes to try keep fit : )

Q: What is the song(s) about and who/what inspired it?
The song is called The Method. It is about the feeling of living in the hectic city of Jakarta, how to cope & roll with it. How to enjoy the madness. The style is inspired by the very current dubstep, b-more, funkstep music movement. It has highs & lows, parts with tension & release. We think it would be good for intense running. We were also inspired by LCD Soundsystem’s 45:33 album. Nike commissioned LCD Soundsystem to make an album that is suited for running. We like how they progress from slow to fast tempo and we also like the fact that the tracks in the album are instrumentals, so it feels very much like a DJ mix so it helps us concentrate on the exercise.

Q: How many track(s) have your band contributed to the Nike+ Music Project? What do you think about the project and its relevance to runners?
We are contributing 1 track. The track gradually builds, holding the climax in the middle and it ends with a simple rhythm perfect for calming down. It is an interesting project & extremely relevant to running. The running experience is that much more intense with music.

Q: How do you want young runners to feel when they run with your music?
We hope that our track can hypnotize runners so that they achieve the impossible. Run faster, run longer, run!

Q: How different is a day concert versus a night concert for you guys? Especially one that starts at 7am?
Night or day we have energize & inspire the audience, so its similar in that way. Night concerts has the dramatic lighting. But in day concerts you can see the audience. Performing at 7am will go down in our history books.

Q : How do you see music as a motivator when running? What do you think about how music influences someone who runs, or anyone engaged in sport?
Music creates mood, mood creates focus, focus creates energy, energy creates muscles .. Running is about building energy and reaching goals, music is a great tool to keep the runners focused and stimulated.

Q: 2 tracks that you consider your favorite when you run, or engaged in sport?
Glenn Branca - Lesson no.1 and LCD Soundsystem - 45 33

Q: Is this your first time performing in Singapore?
No, this will be our third time. We’ve performed for The Good Vibrations Festival @ Fort Canning Park and The Baybeats Festival at the Esplanade

Q: How have you felt about the crowd in Singapore when it comes to your music?
The Singapore crowd is the best in Asia so far, very energetic and appreciates our music to the fullest.

Q: Tell us one thing that Singaporeans should know about your band?
We are a hybrid band, we incorporate electronic elements to our life instruments. We make electronic music that sounds more natural and organic.
