Dutch Runners Lace Up

October 30, 2009

What many people don't know is that the Netherlands is a country of Runners.

And their participation in the second edition of the Human Race is testament to that little-known fact.

On October 24th, Nike hosted local runs in 16 cities across the country, in cooperation with specialty shop Run2Day, which attracted over 3,000 runners of all ages.

The weather was typical Fall Dutch weather - cold and rainy. Not the best conditions.

But that didn't dampen the mood, of course.

All of these runs were leisurely fun-runs in local city parks, with food and entertainment at the Finish Line, as a way to thank everyone involved.

But the story doesn't end there.

They also wanted to "give back" to their community - and the environment - by picking up trash along the course. In total, nearly 3 tons of garbage was collected. 3 tons, the equivalent of 3 compact cars!

So, two things are certain. October skies in Holland are usually cloudy and filled with rain. And regardless of the weather, the Dutch love to run.
