pDouble: The Need for Speed

October 21, 2009

Have the stamina, but still having trouble with your pace? Well, there is more secret of speed other than just intervals and tempo. I will give you guys some of my tips that are proven pretty effectively. My coach told me about these instructions and it seems to be working great, it clearly useful especially if you’re running for a competition, challenge or whatnot.

Here you go..

Wear Less
Don't wear things that will slow you down. That means no headphones, wear lightweight apparel, no long-sleeve shirt around your waist, no heavy shoes and use lightweight accessories (iPod touch or Nano are tolerable). That’s why I never leave behind my most essential running gear; the Lunarglide+ shoe and Nike+ Sportsband. But don’t go to extreme, people don’t want to see stranger running naked on the street, unless you’re one of Victoria secret’s models..;)

Loose some weight
A five-pound weight loss can take more than two minutes off your half-marathon time. Plus, weight loss can reduce your injury risk.

Sleep More
More sleep during training actually improves reaction time and speed. Even if you can't get 10 hours of sleep, just a 20-minute nap can help performance.

Don’t eat Junk (Food)
Sugar can actually trigger hunger, which can lead to weight gain. Plus, you'll get more out of your mileage with long-lasting food like whole-grain rice and pasta than junk food. Take a look at my tips about good food for runners to enrich your food reference, which can increase your performance.

That’s it for now, remember that the Human Race is just three days away and don’t miss the chance to join with thousand of runners around the world. Wait no more, and start make your step counts by registering to Nike+ Human Race.

Peace,
