Lightness Makes Greatness

Lightness makes greatness, and with the new Nike national team kits re-writing the rules for elite apparel, players will be even better prepared to write history in South Africa.

The new jerseys cool the body 7 percent more than the previous incarnations; it's 13 percent lighter and stretches 10 percent more to create one of the most permeable DriFit fabric that's cut to fit better than ever before.

"It's not about light weight," Design Director for Football Thom Walker says. "It's about the right weight."

What weight remains comes from the 8 plastic bottles used to create each of the 100 percent recycled polyester jerseys. Laser-perforated mesh on the sides and a full-mesh back drop some weight and ensure cooling where the body needs it most. Bonded, instead of stitched, seams ensure maximum athlete comfort.

From the unique, perforated numbers and lettering to the Inner Pride graphic on the inside of each federation crest, not a single design element was overlooked, creating a custom and considered design for each nation. The new kits ensure athletes and fans alike will be able to get every ounce out of their own performance.

Explore all the new national team kits on nikefootball.com from March 3rd.
CR7 vs Zlatan: Superfly Face-Off

The lightning-fast feet of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will light up one of the biggest games of the season as two of Europe's elite clubs clash head-on.

And to give their game an injection of turf-burning speed, CR7 and Zlatan will be the first players in the world to wear the new Mercurial Superfly.

The boot is the product of obsessive design and development over the last 10 years of speed. Revolutionary Flywire technology at the heart of the Superfly make it even lighter and faster; giving both players deadly pace. Never before has the evolution of a boot been such big a part of an athlete's onfield armoury.

With 15 goals each already this season, CR7 and Zlatan have a total of 30 strikes between them. And from the moment they lace up their Superflys for a double European debut, the race for number 31 is on.

It's all on the line.
The Manchester Three

Blistering pace. No-look passing. Sledgehammer shooting. Imagine defending for ninety minutes against one of the best strikers on earth.

Now multiply that by three.

Welcome to the world of the defenders tasked with keeping Manchester United's striking trio of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez at bay.

And if you thought a strikeforce made up of Portugese, Argentinian and British players would be hampered by communication problems, think again. The threesomes telepathic link up play produced well over seventy goals last season.

As Wayne Rooney explains, their different cultural backgrounds mean nothing on the pitch. When it comes to football, all three players speak exactly the same language.
Could You Score A Penalty With 45 Million People On Your Back?

The last time Spain made it through to the semi-finals of a competition,
Cesc Fabregas wasn't even born. No pressure, then, as he stepped up to take
the penalty that would knock out the World Champions. Just the expectations
of the entire nation on the youngest shoulders on the pitch. Goalkeeper one
way, ball the other. Dragons slayed, ghosts exorcised, superstitions
dismantled. You're 21 and you know no fear.
