Hundreds of you put your questions to boot designer, Andy Caine in the Mercurial Designer chat. And with questions on boot maintenance, stud design and athlete involvement, Andy had the answers.

Below is what Andy had to say on Mercurial.

Boot Care
"Couple of tips from my side, after you have played, make sure you wipe them down, then keep them in a ventilated area to dry off, that's the best way to keep them in good condition. If your in to leather boots, should be a the same as the synthetics, so wipe them down and leave them to dry, you can add a bit of boot polish if needed!

Right boot for your game
"Know your style of play and your position. If you're the fast guy, then Mercurial is for you; if you're the master of passing, the CTR is the boot for you. For those of you who are about striking the ball in the back of the net then it's the T90 and for those who like the classic touch, there is one boot for you, the Tiempo, there are going to be some further chats with the other designers this week and next week, so make sure you tune in to them too!

Stud Design
"The stud design on the Mercurial is really an important part of the overall design of the boot. Each stud is specifically postioned and put in a specific orientation to maximize the traction needs of the player. We also have introduced the toe area traction which is the last part of the boot that connects to the ground, literally every detail is thought through and tested to make it better than the last."

Ergonomics
"It's a very interesting question on the importance of Ergonomics in Football boots. This is obviously very critical as the boot is directly in contact with the foot, so every stud, and part that interfaces with the foot is specifically positioned and designed around the workings of the body (the foot).

Setting Mercurial Apart
"The big difference with Mercurial is that every part is there to make you faster, faster off the mark and faster when you're up to speed and stopping. The core of the boot is in the plate, which in itself gets your foot lower to the ground and works better with the stud (cleats) to maximize your power in those first steps of acceleration. The Upper is built to both lock you to the plate, but also move with your foot naturally. It's really a track spike for Football.

The Right Weight
"For the weight of the boots, our focus is in making our speed boots the right weight, not just lightweight. There are many different components of building boots that make them fast, weight is one of them. Traction, fit, comfort are equally as important. Don't forget Mercurial is the original lightweight speed boot!"

Colourway
"The colour question seems like it's a hot topic for a lot of you guys, and great to see that there is such an interest in colour for Mercurial. Not going to let the cat out the bag on the next drops, but I think you will all like the next colour: it's quite a special one! I will watch for your reaction on Facebook when it comes out!"

Athlete box fresh
"A few of you asked a question around custom boots for some of the professional players. Some of the top players have some slight adjustments to their boots, mainly for their specific needs around foot shapes. Some have one foot longer than the other but the majority actually wear them out the box.
