Black, brooding and with a V for victory slashed across its chest, Man U’s new strip has been engineered to inspire the away win – before a ball’s even been kicked.

Like the home strip, this kit is rooted in a century of history, with elements taken from the very first Old Trafford season of 1909/1910. It’s been designed to intimidate, with a blue chevron; black shirt, shorts and socks; and ‘The Theatre of Dreams Since 1910’ woven onto the inside label. It’s dark, menacing, and readies the team for another electrifying season.

No club intimidates like Manchester United. The new home strip 2009/10 is designed to do exactly that, as well as celebrate the Old Trafford ground’s centenary year.

The kit echoes the strip from the very first Old Trafford season: 1909/1910. A black chevron slices across the shirt’s red chest. The club’s red devil dances on the waistband of the white shorts. And inside, the label reads ‘The Theatre of Dreams Since 1910’. An iconic strip ready for another legendary football season.

Tradition Reborn

The 1980s. Juventus won 11 trophies in a single decade. Back then the shirt was black and white, but with narrower stripes than in recent years. This season the look returns, giving the club a striking appearance and a reignited passion for success.

On the inside of the home shirt, the label proudly shows off the Italian flag with a single lone ‘J’ woven into the centre. The away kit is just as simple: silver shirt, black and white sash, black shorts and Juventus stamped onto the calf of the white socks.

It’s all here in black-and-white. The Old Lady stands rejuvenated, ready for the launch of another glorious season.

An Empire will rise, an Empire will fall

In Rome on May 27, two football empires will collide. This season Manchester United and Barcelona won their league, both are playing for a third major trophy. And both have a rich history in Europe’s premier club competition.

Barcelona are the only team to play in every year of European competition since they started in 1955. At 11, they have the most consecutive wins in the competition. And this year they’re on for a treble of La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Europe’s greatest prize. All in Pep Guardiola’s first season as manager.

Manchester United have played in every year of European competition since 1994. In 1999 they won a treble, claiming the Premier League, FA Cup and Europe’s greatest prize. And this year they’re on to become the first team to successfully defend their European crown. All increasing the strain on Sir Alex Ferguson’s already heaving trophy cabinet.

So who will take glory in Rome?

Lethal finishing from Toure and Bojan ensured more than an inspiring 4-1 victory...it brought home Barca's 25th domestic cup.

But even for Champions like these, there's still one higher crown to claim. Rome awaits on May 27.

The 2008/9 season will be the 20th anniversary of the famous night at Anfield when Arsenal went to Liverpool, on the last day of the season, needing to win 2-0 to snatch the title. Liverpool seemed destined to succeed, but against all the odds, Arsenal won the league. This seasons new away kit commemorates this and challenges the new arsenal squad to step up and become legends.
