He did his first try out for a local team at just 8.
At 12 he already mastered the ball well enough to surprise everyone at the Brunete tournament. He impressed them so much that, in fact, a couple of months later young Andrés would find the doors of the Masia (FC Barcelona’s youth headquarters) wide open.
His effort and technical qualities were constant.
At 16 he was training with the FC Barcelona first team. He made his debut in the 2002-2003 season.
Years later, that same kid scored a goal that shook the whole world.
