Cristiano Ronaldo brought the sides level with 10 minutes to go. The comeback was on. But deep into stoppage time, Man Utd could not find the winner.

The ball fell to the 17-year old Macheda. With deft skill, he turned his marker and curled a shot into the corner.

Man Utd had all three points, a renewed grip on their title and a bright new star. Sir Alex himself described the wonder strike as “the defining moment of our season.”
