The Young Indian footballers wanting to make it big in the football arena have a new reason to be happy. Now in its fourth year since inception, the Nike Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) will take the Cup winners to Manchester, starting this year.
The Nike MUPC tournament has started with the North Zone qualifiers in Delhi on Tuesday, 11th November 2008. The group stages for the tournament are scheduled to be held in Delhi (North zone), Sikkim (East zone) and Goa (South & West zones). Click here to view updates.
Baichung Bhutia- the Indian captain and Sunil Chettri- the Hattrick hero were present for the inauguration of the event. Baichung described the tournament as “the World Cup for students.” Baichung also said that an event like this is not easy to organize and that the government should help develop the infrastructure and appoint spotters to identify good talent.*
A great start to the contest and the burning desire to win the opportunity to play at Manchester are reasons good enough to look forward to a hot MUPC tournament!
