In his three games against Golden State this season, Rudy Gay has averaged 23.2 points for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Tonight, Memphis visits Golden State for round four. Expect an up-tempo game, and scores in the triple digits - by the start of the fourth quarter.

Combat Players of the Week: December 7 to November 13

Basketball is combat. You have to attack your man on both ends of the floor. That means pushing the ball on offense, taking it to the hole, being willing to draw contact and then fight through it to finish. It means attacking on defense. Getting position and maintaining that position. Taking the ball away and altering shots. And owning the glass – being relentless on both the offensive and defensive side.

Every Monday, a guard, a wing, and a big will be nominated as the Combat Players of the Week. The team that exemplifies what Combat is all about will be recognized, as well. Here are the players who were Prepared For Combat last week.

Guard: Deron Williams (Utah Jazz)
D Will dropped 21 points and 11 assists, leading the Jazz to a big win over the Lakers, ending their 11-game winning streak. And he has been leading the Jazz’s attack, getting to the line 25 times while dropping 26 assists over the past two games.

Wing: Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies)
Gay dropped a career high 41 points, hitting 15 of 28 from the field in a big win at Miami. On the season, he's pulling down 6.6 boards/game and locking down 1.7 steals/game – both well above his career averages.

Big: Kenyon Martin (Denver Nuggets)
Martin battled back from a dislocated left pinkie and his tough play led the Nuggets to a big win against Phoenix. His presence on both ends of the floor made the difference - with tough D in limiting the Suns’ pick-and-roll game, plus 12 points and 9 boards.

NBA Team: Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs won 3 tough games this week, Phoenix, Miami, and Charlotte – running their record to 17-7. On the season, Dallas is locking down the opposition, holding them to 44% shooting and 96.8 points per game, both among the league leaders.

NCAA Team: Kentucky Wildcats
In one week they've taken out North Carolina, Connecticut, and Indiana — the Hoosiers by 17 points on the road in a game they got to the line 21 times and more than doubled the Hoosiers on the glass (49-24). UK is now 10-0, riding a wave of momentum.

The Collection 3.0: Zoom Sharkalaid Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay is currently averaging 21.9 points per game, good for 13th in the NBA. He's also become an ironman for Memphis, averaging 39.2 minutes per game. What about hustle? Rudy has upped his rebounding, and he is getting to the free throw line more often.

The Grizzlies are currently two games out of 8th place in the Western Conference. Will Rudy and his Zoom Sharkalaid be making an appearance in the playoffs next Spring?

Play With Heart Moments: November 4, 2009

Wednesday was a busy night in the NBA, with 10 games on the schedule. Five players, including a pair of teammates, Played With Heart.

In Golden State, Anthony Morrow scored 24 points off the bench, including 4 for 4 from behind the arc, to lead the Warriors over Memphis, 113-105. In the third quarter, Morrow and Memphis' Rudy Gay matched basket for basket, dueling for four minutes, possession after possession. Gay would finish with a team-high 29 points, as well as 8 rebounds.

Andrea Bargnani and Chris Bosh led Toronto over Detroit, 110-99. Bosh contributed on both sides of the court, with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Bargnani recorded his first double-double of the season, with 22 points and 12 rebounds. On two consecutive possessions with five minutes left in the game, Bargnani was able to get the foul line, where he knocked down all four free throws.

And in Houston, Kobe Bryant had his 98th career 40-point game, scoring 41, as the Lakers beat the Rockets in overtime, 103-102. 16 of Kobe's points came in the fourth quarter and overtime. That's having the pure drive to win. That's Playing With Heart.

The Family: Versus

Although this year’s midseason classic is over, the stars are still shining bright heading into the second half of the season. Tuesday night promises some show stopping post-all-star action as the league’s youngest big guns face off against the game’s most unstoppable veterans.

O.J. Mayo's path to the league has paralleled that of his mentor, NBA superstar LeBron James. By the end of his senior year he was named Mr. Basketball of Ohio two straight times, Player of the Year twice and led his team to their third straight high school championship. Now, backed by high-flying forward Rudy Gay, the student will face the teacher at the pro level in a run and gun test of skills.

Later that night, the West lights up as the young star of this year’s all-star weekend Kevin Durant challenges the reigning league and All-star MVP Kobe Bryant in an all out offensive battle. After scoring 46 points in the Rookie Sophomore Challenge, breaking the record for most points ever scored during a midseason classic, he’ll have to bring his A-game and promising young rookie Russell Westbrook to come out on top.

This double-header starts Tuesday at 7:00pm ET.

Every season, a new crop of young athletes hit the league with big dreams and monster skills. But few recent graduates to the pros have made a greater impact on the game than Deron Williams, Kevin Durant, Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay.
