What’s at Stake: As the first week of training camp approaches, Sylvia writes about what it's like to play with the legends of the game.

When you're with your WNBA team, you have certain people who can score, certain people can do this or that. But now it's an All-Star team. We’re all together.

My role on this team is to do everything. If I’m on the bench, I’m making sure I'm getting my teammates into the game, giving them energy. Being out there on the floor playing hard, crashing the boards, diving on the floors, scoring when it's needed, playing great defense… I’m doing anything that's needed from me. I'm going to step up to the plate and take that role.

None of this is about my own legacy. I know that might sound weird. But just being part of the USA Team will be my legacy. We have some of the best players in the world. All of us together, we can make it happen. Everything will fall into order.

We’re focused right now. I know these girls want it. I know I want it. So it’s not going to be, you know, kitty catting and playing around. We know what we’re after. We know we’re trying to get this gold medal.

Bringing home the gold is about pride, and that’s how we do things in the U.S. I think we take pride in winning and having fun while we do it. And we know we’re capable of it. It will mean a lot to bring that home, that gold medal… not just for yourself, but for your country.
