It’s not about the captain. It’s about the team.

What changes when you become captain? The way you play? The way you relate to the coach? The way you relate to the fans?

The answer: none of the above.

The only thing that changes is your responsibility to help every member of the team play better. My role as a captain is to drive, influence, my teammates sometimes on court sometimes from the bench, during a game, by giving directions and encourage them to perform better for the game.

On the court, I work as hard as everyone to help my team win – the same thing I always did. I don’t change my attitude towards people, or play a different game.

The only thing I have more than other players is experience. I’ve played with most Greek players in the national team, so everyone knew my background and experience and accepted me as their captain. Some players are in the finals for the first time, so I talk with them to help them prepare for what’s coming.

Being the captain is about doing everything you can to help your team succeed every time you are on the court – it’s that simple. And that’s how I’ve always played.
