Meet Deborah Johnson - Nike+ SportBand Runner
Deborah Johnson, user of the Nike+ SportBand, began running roughly 3½ years ago in order to get in shape. Since she never ran before, she was unsure of the proper method to running. Fearing that jumping into running too fast would deter her from exercising every day, she began with a walk/run routine. This method consisted of walking for a few minutes and than jogging for only one minute. She kept this up for as long as she could until she began to get tired. Eventually she transformed this routine into a full blown running schedule. To date, she has completed numerous races with highlights that include the San Francisco Marathon (Personal Best - 5:47.14) and the More Magazine Half-Marathon (Personal Best - 2:50).
"I really enjoy running. I like receiving support throughout a race. When I completed the More Magazine Half-Marathon, I was overwhelmed with the amount of cheers I received as I crossed the line. It was really touching."
Deborah is now a proud owner of the Nike+ SportBand, which she uses during every run.
"I went into Niketown to purchase a new pair of sneakers and walked out with the Nike SportBand. I think it is the greatest tool for running and I am amazed that I used to run without it. I am not a fan of running with music - more for safety reasons - because when I run, I like to take in everything around me. I am a huge fan of having the ability to check my pace and time during my run because it reminds me to pick it up when I feel that I am slowing down. Afterwards, when I upload my run, I can see the progress I've made after each run. I love seeing that! I truly believe that the Nike SportBand has made me a more efficient and effective runner."
Deborah is signed up for The Nike+ Human Race and certainly plans to use her SportBand.
"I never run without it. The Nike Human Race is my next big race that I am training for. My goal is to run a 9:30 pace throughout. I feel confident that I will reach my goal and of course, if I am not hitting my pace, my SportBand will let me know."
