All You Need to Know About the Nike+ System
There is just under two months left before The Nike+ Human Race, which means it's time to start tracking your miles and focusing on the big day. The best way to prepare for the race is by using the Nike+ system, which can satisfy all of your training needs.

The Nike+ system is designed so that a runner can access his or her distance, pace, chronological time and calories burned within seconds while out for a run. There are two devices available to runners - Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Nike+ SportBand.

Nike + iPod Sport Kit - This is the original device that linked runners to the Nike+ world. It allows the individual to listen to music while tracking distance, time, pace and calories. Of course, when you are nearing the end of your run and want that extra burst of energy, hit the center button on your iPod nano and listen to your Powersong.

Nike+ SportBand - This is the new way to link runners to the Nike+ world. If you are someone who does not listen to music while running, this device is perfect for you. Instead of carrying your iPod, you wear the Nike+ SportBand around your wrist just like a watch. All that data is stored and easily visible during your runs.

Each device requires a sensor that must be placed into a pair of Nike+ sneakers. This sensor sends out a signal with every step taken to the NIKE+ receiver that is connected to your iPod nano or the SportBand.

Once the run is complete, no matter the device you use, you can upload the information onto your personalized running page on nikeplus.com by completing the following:

After finishing your run, remove the receiver and plug it into a USB connection on your computer. All the data stored throughout the run is automatically uploaded onto your personalized Nike+ page.

Once your are connected to the Nike+ system, there are a number of different features allowing a runner to gain insight into training, to participate in challenges, and to interact with runners throughout the world. The world of running is limitless and by using the Nike + system, you are opened up to a new world of capabilities.

Here is a look into some of features the Nike+ system offers:

Nike+ Coach - Whether you are training for a 5k, 10k, Marathon, or just want to get in shape, this function provides a 8 -12 week training program for runners at any level. The Nike+ Coach training programs, developed by NIKE elite trainers, are designed to meet the specific needs of individual runners. This function also provides running terminology and a RPE (perceived effort scale) chart. The perceived effort scale (RPE) allows you to determine the intensity of a workout. Based on the amount of physical stress you feel, the system matches the feeling to a number scale. When you are conducting a workout, the RPE scale will determine the degree of stress and the ability to take in oxygen. The RPE scales ranges from 1 (very light degree of challenge) to 10 (maximum degree of challenge). This system will assist you in completing your workout without overextending yourself.

Create a Team - This function allows you to partner with your friends to accomplish a common goal, whether it is to run 100 miles or train for The Nike+ Human Race. Your team can be as big or as small as you like- there's no limit to the number of people per team. Once the team is established, join or create a challenge and face off against teams throughout the world.

Create a Challenge - If you are looking for extra motivation or want to compete against your friends, this function allows an individual to step up his or her running. There are two forms of challenges - individual or team. When a runner sets up an individual challenge, the runner can chose from a variety of options ranging from a distance goal, most miles, or a distance race. The challenge is open to all individuals looking to accomplish a similar goal. When creating a team challenge, a group of individuals sign up together, becoming teammates, and face off against other teams. The challenge options again consist of a variety of choices though all members of the team must participate toward accomplishing the goal.
