Running for a Cause
Whether you are a recreational runner or someone who often enters a race, there are a hundred reasons to go for a run. Some people run for fitness, some run for the thrill of competition, while others simply run for the love of the sport. Yet now, thanks to The Nike+ Human Race 10k, each of the 10,000 New York City participants will have the chance to run for a cause.

Nike has partnered with three amazing charities, each with incredible missions. When you sign up for the race, a portion of the $35 entry fee ($5) will be donated to one of the following three charities:

Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.livestrong.org)
Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) unites people to fight cancer. The Foundation empowers cancer survivors to live life on their own terms while raising awareness and funds for the global fight against cancer. To better understand how cancer is represented around the world, the LAF is conducting research and identifying opportunities to change how cancer is perceived internationally and to raise awareness of the global cancer burden. Unite and fight cancer at LIVESTRONG.org.

Ninemillion.org (www.ninemillion.org)
The ninemillion.org campaign was created in June 2006 by the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) in partnership with Nike, Microsoft and the other members of the Council of Business Leaders. The campaign aims to give more than nine million refugee children access to education, sport and technology.

World Wildlife Fund - WWF (http://wwf.org)
For more than 45 years, WWF has been protecting the future of nature. The largest multinational conservation organization in the world, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. WWF's unique way of working combines global reach with a foundation in science, involves action at both a local and global level, and ensures the delivery of innovative solutions that meet the needs of both people and nature. Go to www.worldwildlife.org to learn more.

With this new knowledge of the charities, sign up for The Nike+ Human Race 10k and support the cause closest to your heart. You will know that your run on 8.31.2008 is not just benefiting you, but making the world a better place!
