LA Human Race took runners around the word!
The Nike+ Human Race 10K was like a jet set trip around the world! 13,000 runners started running at the Los Angeles Coliseum at 8:31:08 PM, and I was one of them. I was so excited when I started running that I ran my first mile in six minutes! I was too fast and had to slow down. As I started pacing myself I looked around and found myself in Japan. Drum sounds filled the night while Taiko drummers banged away at their drums! The Japanese flag waving while the masses of runners whisked by.
I looked at my Nike+ SportBand and slowed my tempo a bit. However my pace picked right back up immediately when I saw the Australian flags and the Maori Kapa Hapa dancers performing their routine. I started thinking to myself, this is not a race, this is a carnival and I am one of many attractions, or wait is it those six Can Can dancers on the stage who are dancing to traditional Parisian folk music? I got distracted by their beauty. They took me back to the days when I was visiting France with my friends.
I was back on track and headed toward the 2 mile mark only to see a large POWER 106 bus that was blasting hit after hit as I ran by. Nike+ Power Songs to get me through the race! At that point I was wondering what would be next? On the way down Figueroa I passed a beautiful church. Seven mariachis were positioned on a large stage singing traditional Mexican music. They were fabulous! I took a right on Adams and picked up my speed! I was now passing the three mile mark, listening to the Brazilian drums and watching a whole group of Brazilian dancers fight capoiera. I am back on Figueroa passing the Mariachis, Kapa Hapa dancers and take a right turn on Exposition Blvd. While running toward the 4 mile mark I see a group of 19 African Dancers. My legs felt tired, but they were dancing and cheering me on. I got a rush of adrenaline. I headed back down Exposition Blvd. and to my amazement I see 25 Hip Hop dancers from Culture Shock and decked out in the hottest Nike gear.
I was on my last mile. I knew that I only had another nine minutes to go before I crossed the finish line. At this point I find myself hallucinating. I am seeing four Lion heads dance around in circles, with Chinese lanterns hanging from trees. I am amazed! This is awesome! I took a right back on to Figueroa and there it is, big and bright in front of me, the Coliseum. Endorphins flush my body as I cross the finish line. That was a heck of a trip!
