The Race is Underway!
The race is underway, and as tens-of-thousands of racers run through the streets of Austin, we’re reminded that we’re not alone here in Texas. Footage from the Human Race 10K’s, already completed around the world today, are playing on the JumboTron screen at the Austin finish line. The historic significance is awe-inspiring and the excitement is electrifying.

Watching this large crowd of dedicated racers running past Austin’s most-famous locations would make any Texan proud. 6.2 miles from the Texas Capitol building to the Bob Bullock Texas State Museum, around the University of Texas campus and down the UT Drag, there’s no shortage of visual inspiration for these Human Racers.

We also recognize our Con Mi Madre friends running and walking amongst the crowd. Con Mi Madre, an organization focused on encouraging Hispanic mothers and daughters to boost self-confidence and build leadership skills together through participation in various activities, has about 40 members represented here in Austin today. With the Nike+ Human Race, Nike has partnered with Con Mi Madre to incorporate fitness into their program for the very fist time. All the hard work and dedication at Nike+ training runs finally pays off for these ladies today.

At this point, 750,000 people have participated today in one of the 25 Human Race 10k’s around the world, and following our race here in Austin, 8.31.08 will conclude with the last two races in Vancouver followed by Los Angeles.

The Austin winners will be crossing the finish line soon. Stay tuned for the results!
