Starbucks Partners with Nike to Race the World in the Nike+ Human Race
Starbucks is partnering with Nike as an official race partner of the Nike+ Human Race – a unique global 10K race that will be the world’s largest one-day running event on August 31, 2008. The Nike+ Human Race will engage runners in 26 cities around the world (including five cities in the U.S.) and wherever they are through Nike+. Participants will be able to run for a worthy cause and support the three official Nike+ Human Race charitable partners: the Lance Armstrong Foundation – uniting people in the fight against cancer; WWF - the global conservation organization addressing the causes and impacts of climate change; and the UN refugee agency's ninemillion.org campaign – bringing sport and education to refugee youth.
Serving as a community center for race participants in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and Portland, Oregon and those who choose to run where they are using Nike+, all runners are encouraged to get their running shoes on and sprint to Starbucks for advice, tips and guidance on their running routine. In addition to providing a support group, the weekly training sessions and in-store activities include:
Training for the race begins on Monday, June 23, 2008. Weekly training sessions and runners will be encouraged to utilize their local Starbucks store as a meeting place for their daily running regimen.
The Human Race will take place in 5 U.S. Cities: New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and Portland, Oregon. Runners can also participate wherever they are by logging into nikeplus.com. With the help of Nike+ and the Nike+ SportBand, every city and every road can become a race-day course.
