Golden Bear- Aug. 5th at Guero's
“I WANT to do the practice run,” Chris Gregory said, learning that a training run for the Nike+ Human Race was the featured event before Golden Bear performs at Guero’s on Tuesday, August 5th at 8 p.m. Gregory, a marathon runner and the head bear of Golden Bear, is nearing the end of another long trek, a new Golden Bear EP. Reaching the finish line to be pressed soon, Everest is slated to be released this fall and should provide fans with something a bit different. “I don’t think some of these songs would have fit on the previous two albums Golden Bear (2006) and To the Farthest Star (2007),” noted Gregory “but it still sounds like us; It’s still Golden Bear.”
That’s a relief because Golden Bear, usually playing as a 5 piece, has their unique sound down; it’s a confident, never wavering and definite sound and that’s not easy to do. As a friend of mine and credible indie music critic put it, “Golden Bear is smiling feel good pop with mature lyrics and melodies.” Spin.com said Golden Bear was a “guitar-swinging, trumpet-blasting orgy of anthemic pop... A blur of frenzied dancing and fist-pumping excitement." Golden Bear just likes to call it “galactic forest rock with elements of earthiness.” It’s mature indie pop that won’t let you sit and won’t let you down. It might be better known to some as being triumphant rock. And that’s what everyone needs to hear when they finish a long run!
