REGISTRATION / PACKET PICKUP

When and where is the race?
25 cities across the globe will be running the Nike+ Human Race on August 31, 2008. The Austin race will begin at 6:30pm and will start and finish at 6th and Congress in downtown Austin, TX.

When does registration begin?
Online registration is now open. You can register at nikeplus.com.

Is there registration on race day?
No, you need to register before the day of the race.

What does it cost to participate?
Registration is $35. All race entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. We are unable to transfer entry fees to other Nike races. Also, your registration, racing number and timing chip are non-transferable.

Will I receive a confirmation of my registration?
Yes, an email will be sent from SignMeUp.com to the email address you supply once your registration has been confirmed. A separate email from Nike with participant information and packet pickup details will be sent to all participants in August. You should print your confirmation email and bring it with you to packet pickup.

Is online registration secure?
Yes, all personal information and credit card information provided during registration is secure and confidential. Nike has partnered with signmeup.com to handle all registrations. The process uses a security technology called Secure Socket Layers, or SSL, which encrypts your personal and credit card information while transferring it from your internet browser to the signmeup.com servers.

What is your privacy policy regarding the information supplied on the registration form?
All information collected is for Nike internal purposes only and is not shared with any other parties unless you have indicated on your registration form that you would like to receive additional information.

Is registration transferable?
No, once you register, you are the only one who can race. You can’t transfer your registration to anyone else.

Why wasn’t I asked for my t-shirt size?
Because your race number will be directly on your race shirt, t-shirts have already been ordered and printed. You will be able to choose your t-shirt size for best fit at packet pickup.

Can someone else pick up my race packet on my behalf?
Yes. All runners will receive an email confirmation from Nike before the event. You may bring that email confirmation to pick up your friend’s race packet.

Can someone else register for me?
Yes, once you have been taken to the signmeup.com website there will be a question: "Who are you registering?" There is a pull-down window where you can choose- "someone else."

Can I pick up my packet on race day?
No, you must pick up your race packet at one of the packet pickup locations above. Due to the bib assignments being printed on the shirts, we are unable to accommodate race day packet pickup.

What are the course restrictions?
For the safety of all participants, skates, strollers or animals are not permitted, as per the rules and regulations established by the USA Track & Field. Due to the large number of entrants, all runners should line up at the start according to anticipated pace. All race participants must complete the course in two hours and 15 minutes (2:15 hrs) after the last runner crosses the start line.

I have my own timing chip, can I race with it?
Yes, you can race with your own timing chip instead of the one provided. Just bring your timing chip with you when you pick up your packet.


Post-race event details?
Don’t forget your ID! All registered runners over 21 years of age will be able to purchase Shiner beer, and everyone is invited to purchase some post-run Salt Lick BBQ. All participants will receive Ozarka water, PowerBar, Bear Naked granola and Gatorade at the finish line.

TRAVEL/TRANSPORTATION

How can I get to the event?
Nike and the City of Austin encourage you to use public transportation to and from the Nike+ Human Race 10K. Please visit capmetro.org to plan your trip to and from the start and finish line area.

Where can I lock up my bike?
A Bike Valet area will be available near the start and finish area. Valet bike parking is similar to a coat check for bicycles. Attendees are issued a claim check in exchange for their bike. Bikes are parked in a secure corral, and will be managed by event staff. Click here to download a City of Austin bike path map to plan your trip to and from the start and finish area.

Where do I park for the event?
Parking will be available in the state parking garages along Trinity St. north of 12th St., at any public metered spot or in paid surface lots. Be sure to check back here for updated parking information. Please be sure to arrive early and consider car pooling with fellow race participants. Runners are encouraged to visit capmetro.org to plan your trip using public transportation.

PARTICIPANTS

Can walkers participate in the event?
Yes, runners and walkers of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join the 2008 Nike+ Human Race in Austin. Please be advised that the roads will be opened at roughly a 18 minute pace. Walkers that are behind this pace will be asked to continue walking on the sidewalk.

Are wheelchairs allowed on the course?
If you have special needs, please contact race management at racetheworld@conleysports.com.

Can my friends come to all race events?
Only Nike+ Human Race 10K participants will be admitted into the post-race concert. However, friends and family are encouraged to visit one of our official on-course race route restaurantsto watch and cheer on race participants.

Where do I leave my personal belongings when I run?
A bag check area will be available in the start and finish area. You must wear your official Dri-FIT shirt to be able to check your bag. Your belongings will be secure throughout the run. Nike, however, is not responsible for lost/stolen items, so please do not bring any valuables. Be sure to allow enough time to get to the start line. The bag check area will be open from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.

How can I volunteer?
We welcome your participation as a volunteer! The event will need hundreds of volunteers to staff the aid stations, work the packet pickup and offer support to the runners at the start and finish. To volunteer click here All volunteers will receive and official race volunteer t-shirt.

THE RACE

Where is the start line?
The start line is at the corner of Congress Ave. and 6th St. All runners will be directed to the start line 30 minutes prior to the start of the race. Minute per mile pace signs and Nike+ pacing teams will be stationed throughout the start area. You are encouraged to begin the race near runners of similar pacing goals and strategies.

How many water stations and bathrooms will be available?
Water stations will be setup at the start and finish areas, and at miles 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, and 5.25 along the course. Bathrooms will be available at the start line and in the post-race expo area, as well as along the course. In addition, three cooling stations will be positioned prior to three of the water stations where runners can run through running water.

Is it a loop course or an out and back?
The course is a loop.

Is the course certified by USA Track & Field?
Yes, the course is a USAT&F certified 10K race with certification number TX08018JF.

How far is 10K?
A 10K is 6.2 miles long.

Do I need to complete the course by a specific time?
Yes. Austin city streets will begin re-opening at roughly a 18 minute per mile pace. This pace allows you to complete the course in two hours and 15 minutes (2:15 hrs). All runners must complete the race in this time frame to receive an official race time.

Who will be performing at the post race concert?
The Nike Human Race in Austin will have a post-race concert like no other concert you have ever experienced! Nike has searched high and low to bring Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals to rock the city long after you finish your race. The concert is included with your registration fee, and will take place in front of the Capital.

THE EVENT

Who is producing the event?
Nike has hired On Board Entertainment and Conley Sports to produce this event.

What races have these organizations produced?
On Board Entertainment has produced multiple Nike races including the Nike Run Hit Remix in Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland and Miami, as well as the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco. Conley Sports produces local favorites the AT&T Austin Marathon and the Texas Roundup.

Why is Nike sponsoring the Nike+ Human Race?
Nike believes in the potential of the human race. We have joined forces globally to create the world’s largest running event with the goal of helping humanity in the process through givebacks to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund and UNHCR.

Why did Nike choose Austin?
Considered one of the best cities to live in for active individuals, Nike is coming to Austin to meet and run with these individuals.

Will there be exclusive Nike+ Human Race gear?
Yes, official Human Race apparel and accessories will be available at various Nike retail stores throughout Austin. Be sure to check back for a list of retail partners. The product can also be purchased online at nikestore.com.

Do I have to wear the race shirt on event day?
Yes. The shirt identifies you as an official Nike+ Human Race participant and it’s your ticket to the post event concert.


AWARDS

What prizes will be awarded, and in what categories?
Awards will be given to the top three (3) overall women and men. All finishers will receive a specially designed Nike+ Human Race finisher’s bracelet.

Do all racers receive a medal or certificate?
Each Finisher will receive a specially designed Nike+ Human Race Finisher’s bracelet.

Where can I find my race results?
Results will be posted online at nikeplus.com following the race.

Where can I find my race photos?
You will receive an email from Brightroom once your photos are ready online.
