Race Strategy
A race strategy includes things that need to be performed during the race.

The two main race strategies that you will need to consider when running are:

1) Pacing
2) Hydration

Pacing

For most of you running the human race, your pacing strategy should be conservative. What I mean by that is a 10km can be a long way if you start out too fast. It is important that you run your own race and don't get caught up racing your friends and other competitors too early. Start at a pace that you feel is comfortable and that you can maintain throughout the race. If you feel good at the halfway point then pick up the pace. If you can do this you will find you will pass a lot of runners that started out too fast.

Hydration

As I have mentioned earlier being hydrated is important to performing well. Make sure you take advantage of the aid stations and try and drink at least half a cup of water at each station. Drinking water can be tricky while you are running so either practice this in training or slow down and walk to make sure you get what you need.

A common issue athletes face when running is stitch. Stitch is a tricky little thing that there is no known quick fix for. If you get a stitch, slow your pace a little, stay focused on the process of running and just try to keep moving forward. It will eventually go away.
