Race Day Preparation

Having done all of the training necessary to achieve your goal in the Nike+ Human Race 10km it would be foolish to let bad planning ruin your chances on race day. In this article we will discuss some of the more common mistakes that athletes make on race day and offer suggestions to help you stay in control.

The day before a race is a good time to think about your plan for race day. Build a timeline of what needs to be done so that on race day you are in control and will not forget anything by rushing.

PACK EVERYTHING
Human Race is a 4.15pm start so I recommend having all your gear (running apparel, running shoes, post race clothes etc) packed and ready to go by 11am.

ARRIVE EARLY
It sounds simple enough but all to often runners cut it fine and arrive at the venue a lot later than planned. Often this is because roads were closed and they could not get through or because they could not get parking. Be aware of this and have time up your sleeve in case you need to adapt.

WARM UP
Because you arrived at the venue early you now have the time to complete a warm up routine. A warm up is a very useful way of preparing your body and mind for what is to come. An easy 5 minute jog and a few dynamic exercises are all you need to get your body ready to go.

HAVE FUN
While everyone is taking part in Human Race for their own personal reasons, having fun should be right up there at the top of the priority list. If you enjoy the process the result will take care of itself.
