Swimming as an alternative forms of training

There are other forms of training that you can do to break the monotony of having to run every day. Swimming for example can be substituted for training on days that you just don’t feel like going out for a run. It is important to change your training routine from time to time, as it can be psychologically tiring to have to do the same type of training over and over again.

Swimming offers similar aerobic conditioning with less impact on your body. There are also therapeutic benefits from swimming in a pool that helps in relieving muscle soreness as well as aiding in the removal of waste products accumulated in your muscles. This will speed up the recovery process and you will be all set to go back to run training again.

If you are injured and are not able to continue running, jumping into the pool would still serve its purpose of maintaining your cardiovascular fitness while giving your injury a chance to recover. But bear in mind that swimming is not a complete substitute for your entire running training. You body still needs to prepare itself for what is going to happen on race day and that is to run.
