Coping with common problems during a run (abrasion, stitches, lactic acid)

During your run you could be faced with several problems that could prevent you from attaining your desired result at the finish line.

One such problem is abrasion, which leaves many runners walking funnily when it strikes. Make sure you apply an anti-chafing stick to trouble spots. This will greatly reduce the risk of your race getting affected by this sort of annoying discomfort.

The next problem is stitches. This problem prevents you from breathing properly in a race and is commonly recognized as a pain in the side of your abdomen. The main cause of stitches is due to improper breathing patterns during physical activity. It helps to slow down and deepen your breaths while establishing a consistent breathing rhythm. Doing abdominal stretches during warm up is also a good way of reducing the risk of stitches occurring during your run.

The last problem is lactic acid. Lactic acid is a byproduct that causes muscle fatigue. If you were to run very hard over a period of time, you would experience a burning sensation in your legs. This is lactic acid accumulation and it causes your muscles to fatigue and reduces your level of performance. The best way to avoid this is to pace yourself well during your run. If you start experiencing a slight burning sensation in your muscles you know you’re already going too fast and need to slow down right away.

Prevention is the best way to avoid such uncomfortable situations. But with these common problems made known, you should be able to cope with them if they affect you during your run.
