Sneakers Take FOREVER To Dry
In grade 11, likely because most of my friends were doing it, I started training for short course triathlons.
I had never seriously trained for any sort of running before, but our school’s triathlon coach - this towering 6’7” friendly giant who would lead us on these insane group runs – changed that pretty quickly.
He’d take us on reeealy long distances around lakes, medium distances through streams (my shoes have never since been so soggy) and short, brutal distances up incredibly steep inclines (hill repeats…the worst!).
But for all the intensity of these training sessions, they were never that terrible, because we were doing it as a group.
There’s something about a pack run that keeps you motoring and urges you to go harder, faster and further. And on the days where that isn’t what your training schedule calls for, you’ve got people around you with whom to converse and commiserate – which makes the run seem that much faster!
The Running Room is offering ongoing group run clinics around the country aimed specifically toward completing the Human Race; whether you’re in Halifax, Edmonton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa or Vancouver, you can hook up with a crew of like-minded pavement-pounders; check out specific dates and times here.
I can’t promise you’ll be led by a 6’7” instructor who makes you run in riverbeds, but I’m pretty sure you’ll experience a good amount of camaraderie and fun.
